maul was good with the lightsaaber nodoubt, the mere fact theat he faught with a double-bladed proved it. but that entire fight was written to actually, in my eyes, hype the ani-obi duel. it showed that obi wan is a very well trained jedi and proved his lightsaber skills rocked, it also proved that he wasnt scared of evil, so when ani comes out of the closet, obi will not under estimate his power.
ok time for my two cents. I have a a theory that anakin may indeed dominate obi-wan in the duel, initially anyway, however i reckon this might well be largely down to the fact that obi-wan may be reluctant to use any attacking assaults on anakin, and may spend the early stage of the duel defending anakins assaults as opposed to using attacking meneuvers himself.
This would pave the way for some excellent emotional dialogue between the two, with Obi pleading with anakin and attempting to prevent anakin from completing his descent into evil.
But as we have seen in some early footage of the duel obi-wan soon realises that there is no way back for anakin and he is hell bent on finishes of obi once un for all.
A focused obi-wan out wits a furious anakin and he takes a dip in the hot stuff.
As for the obi-wan vs maul duel. I agree that its was a fairly even match but im leaning towards the idea that a better diciplined maul would have done away with the episode 1 obi, but id give the edge to episode 2 obi if they had met again in AOTC

I also think that Maul was better than Obi-Wan in Episode 1 and Obi got lucky at the end even though he put up a good fight once Quigon went down.
As far as Aniken vs Obi, I think Aniken will dominate but as many of you said he'll lose his cool and slip up and Obi will exploit it to the fullest. *Joking* Maybe Ob will say I knocked your gf up and the kids are mine! 😛 and trick Aniken lol.
But I basically agree with Darth_Duffy, and PVS posts.
In TPM, Maul and OB1 only had two real good hits on each other(besideds him getting killed). Ob1 knocked him down, and then Maul force pushed him in a hole. If Maul would have just hit him or cut his hands off, guess what......NO MORE OB1. So the only reason for Ob1's victory, is Maul cockiness...a hint of foreshadowing if you will. Maul was obviously a better all around fighter, its just OB1 saw an opening and didnt procrastinate like Maul did.
As far as Ani goes, i think he'll be trying as hard as he can, OB1 wont be fighting is best but i think Ani will think he is, so when OB1 really starts going, it'll throw Ani off and that will be his downfall...."your over confidence is your weakness." as luke tells palpy

If Maul would have been in eps2 then he would also have improved and well maul was an amazing duelist in one can you imagine an improved maul. Andf anyway the eps1 Obi seems better than the eps2 Obi he was more agile and fast. The only better thingf about the eps2 Obi is he is more wiser and probably more atuned to the force.
I wasn't impressed with Anakins dual sabre routine. That could have been so much cooler than it was :/
Could Anakins drawing on the extreme dark side simply tire him out?
The footage I remember seeing in the Trailer, Anakin was always on the offensive, Obi on the back foot. We all know the rumours about Palpy turning uber ugly after he draws on the dark side to defeat Yoda.
So maybe the Dark Side drains you more than Light Side. Obi defends for his life as Anakin unleashes hell fire and brimstone for ten minutes. Anakin runs out of puff giving Obi the opportunity he needs to send Ani swimming.

Good point. Also keep in mind that ANiken fought Dooku as a padawan learner and seemed to do better than Obi Wan did at the end of ep II, before Dooku cut his arm off. 😉 So I'd say in Ep III Aniken will be great and very skilled.
