Jokes about Minorities...

Started by FistOfThe North13 pages

When minorities say a racist joke, it's just joking around but when a white person does it, it's offensive because white are looked at as being purely racist, defeating the purpose of the funniness of the joke itself. It'll be as if the white person seriously meant the joke. And thats beside the fact that they're already look at as having the racial agenda at all time.

To many, it won't look right for any white person to joke about racism the way minorities can without looking like ass.

I think that depends on the situation and the intention of the one telling the joke. For instance, I have many native canadian (i.e. Cree, Ojibwa, Iroquios etc.) friends, and with many we'll make ongoing jokes to eachother because we know the intention is without malice.

However, when someone (be they white, black or puece) walks up to one of them and says, "heya chief", little humour is felt. As is the case when someone starts telling drunkin' indian jokes around a fire well withing the earshot of any natives, but with little attention paid to them as an audience of a joke.

Those are just two examples of what I am talking about, but I am assuming you get my drift.

It's interesting that you equate the term "minority" to being a term representing a "non-white" person. If used in this context, it's only accurate to use the term to describe non Anglo Saxons/white peoples that reside in the US, Canada, Australia..and parts of northern Europe. However..if you really think about it..."non-whites" are the predominent majority that make up the world.

Anyway as far as the joke thing goes..I really think its depends on the person. I've seen some whites get more offended by racial remarks than blacks. So anyway...people are different..and have different senses of humor. I really don't think race has much to do with it.

I don't think people consider the actual meaning of the word 'minority' anymore.

This is still going? Damn!

The irony of Eis's post is that he used the word "coloured" which I think is possibly the most offesive there is, certainly one of.

Race jokes are always hilarious.

I don't mind them, I don't mind laughing at someone if they are different. I don't mind BEING laughed at because I'm different.

It just depends on how mentally tough you are.

I got the drift K.

To some, racial jokes are only funny and humour-intentioned when the person saying the joke is of the race he's joking about. Other than that, some people would get offended.

For some reason, saying 'colored people' isn't okay, but saying someone is a '(wo)man of color' is alright.

Well I can see why woman of colour would be considered wrong. Though I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as "coloured people."

To imply someone has been coloured is to imply that white is natural and anything else isn't.

When I was in High School I worked at a mens clothing store. The manager brought in his birth certificate for some legal matter he had to attend to on his lunch break. When I read it, it said that his race was "Negroid".

I laughed so HARD that I almost fainted. He didn't like it, but he knew I was a prick....

We all laughed about it later.

As long as its done with people that you know can take a joke its ok.Just dont go to people you dont know and say "You heard the one about the negro and the chinamen?"

"Suits you Sir", if you're English you will be laughing now and even more at my next quip, "Was it Grace Brotherss" CF were you "Free". Three harmless minority jokes aimed at your sexual orientaion which are quite safe as 1, you know I am joking, and 2, its unlikely you get those shows. Now no jokes about Gypsies please. 🙂

Negroid 😬

No, racist jokes are not ok. They are a form of racism, and i dont understand how can people claim that they hate racism and everything about it, then turn around and support racist jokes. Those are NOT jokes - those are excuses to insult and descriminate anyone who is different to us.

Racist jokes are underlining the differances between us! They call themselfs humour so that they can freely just get away with it!

When you tell a racist joke, you are making fun of and laughing at the fact that certain group is different. You are underlining the diefferances between us, and for some reason some people who claim are not racist, find that kind of behaviour - funny.

quoting some old post, not having read the whole topic -

isn't it the same in English as in German - that, for some jokes, only a kind of group is needed to tell the joke, so that a race is 'abused' for it?
many of the german jokes are about blondes and Eastern Frisians. both groups in fact aren't dumber at all, but they both are told to be so in jokes....
well, my point is... they are still jokes and mostly just told like that, no negative thoughts about... ?!

"Cracker" is short for "whipcracker" which comes from the "crack" sound the whip makes.

Who said GDF wasn't educational?
