Ah, my apologies. I shall answer that now.

And the Chief did the exact same thing on the first Halo when he busted Jacob Keyes out of jail, with Cortana in his head, meaning that if he had been captured the Covenant would have learned everything, thus risking the entire war. Keyes even berates him afterward and calls him stupid for doing so.

Not really, no. Keyes was the chief's commander. Not only did Keyes know tactical information about the Human war strategy, but he also knew the location of earth.

In reality, it would have been equally as foolish to leave keyes in the hands of the covenant, who probably would have been able to torture Keyes into revealing this information.

And... how is that Marcus' fault?

The UNSC didn't even try. How many full on planets did they lose? They lost every single planet they own to the Covenant, and in the end, ya know, the end of the game, only managed to survive due to a civil war they didn't start and because the of the Flood, whom they don't control.

The UNSC only lived due to luck, and because they were the least threatening species of the three.

The UNSC tried, they just didn't destroy their own strongholds to stop the Covenant, which is tactically stupid.

Are you sure it wasn't the other way around. It was the American revolution, not suppression.

Yes, I'm sure.

When the war was full blown and the actual American army was created, they would go into towns for supplies and recruitment and to sues as bases of operations and if you openly dissed them or hindered the cause you could be shot or hung.

The whole "Freedom of speech" thing didn't come around until the Constitution.

Any anti-Revolutionaries were shot. Had a draft.
This is retarded.
Keep up the LOLtrain.

No you are missing the point. Drafted or enlisted: Those soldiers cared about winning that war. And how is the Persian war any less relevant than Iraq?

I still love you.

Not really, no. Keyes was the chief's commander. Not only did Keyes know tactical information about the Human war strategy, but he also knew the location of earth.

Except ultimately Keye's knowledge is limited, whereas Cortana has informaton that even top ONI brass don't know about, and she has picture perfect memory of it all, and unlike Keyes she's ultimately a computer program meaning that with time they would have unwritted her and gotten what they wanted anyway, and add to that the Chief's defeat would mean the destruction of the strongest weapon in their arsenal and a major blow to the moral.

When it looks like a human commander is going to be captured for sure, they try to run away. When it looks like an AI is going to be captured for sure, the AI is deleted off the face of the galaxy without hesitation via the Cole Protocol. There's a reason for that.

The UNSC tried, they just didn't destroy their own strongholds to stop the Covenant, which is tactically stupid.

Name one major offensive the UNSC made to actually kill the Covenant once and for all. They spent the entire war on the defensive up until the very, very end, when the Covenant had been nearly destroyed by the Flood and the Civil War and were incredibly weakened.

And you did that because your subconscious would have nagged you if you hadn't, and you didn't want that to happen. Thus, you did it to spare yourself from feeling something uncomfortable.

Civil War didn't weaken them, Brute ships outnumbered theirs three to one.

Nope, because I'm mentally retarded.

Some did, sure. There's always exceptions.

Most people, when knee deep in the shit and bombs going off around them an watching their friends die in front of their eyes, only think "I want to go home and see my wife", not "Oh man I can't wait to yell out victory".

In fact if you most soldiers post-war that it was a stupid war and shouldn't have happened and they regret doing what they did, and if they knew what it was going to be like before enlisting they wouldn't have.

*shrug*

Doesn't change the fact that they were still weakened.

If you're 5'5 and I'm 6'7 and stronger than you, but I have the flu, I'm still stronger than you even though I'm weakened.

Yep, all wars are a waste of time, but by God you better enjoy it while your doing it.

So what you're saying is that soldiers are mentally retarded for enlisting, because you can't think of any other reason for doing something so pointless.

Okay.

Most don't, most hate it when it's actually happeing.

"They better enjoy it". What? They should enjoy all the death that's happening all around them? That's retarded. How old are you, ten? War sn't some retarded little game that you play even though you don't like it so you try to enjoy it until it's over.

No, strength is the current stage. You wouldn't say that a former wrestle in a wheel chair is stronger than me just because he is 300 pounds of muscle. What kind of logic is that. If you had the flu then I would naturally be stronger.

Dude, if you were mentally retarded, you would be typing random letters, banging your head against the screen, and shouting like a moron. Also, if you are mentally retarded, your parents shouldn't even let you go online.

Uh yeah. if you engage a guy in wheel chair in an arm wrestling match and he has 300 pounds of muscle he'd whoop your ass.

If I had the flu but I had 300 pounds of muscle and was a foot taller I'd still be stronger than you. Having the flu won't change that.

19 actually, point is, no one wants a solder if their heart isn't into it.

Its like football. I hate it but played all four years in my high school career. Its only the game(battle) that is important, and that should be the players(soldiers) focus.

As a matter of fact, football is a great example; you have to get in shape, you can get scholarships, benefits with the "ladies", and there can be injury or death. Benefits can be a draw, but at the end of the day, you have to be a fan of what you are actually doing and appreciate the team(country) you are on.

No one wants a soldier who's heart is in it. But they stick with what they've got because for 99% of soldiers their hearts more into survival then straight-up victory halfway through their tour.

]Its like football.

In football you don't lose your ****ing leg if you sit down on the wrong patch of grass. In football you're not expected to catch the ball with bullets whizzing an inch away from your head and will kill you. In Football you don't have to watch a house with a family get bombed for "strategic reasons". In football if you lose you go home and laugh with your wife and kids for the entire summer. In football you get 2.5 million dollars a year... to catch a ****ing ball.

War is not like Football, and you accuse me of being dishonorable to soldiers yet any vet who would hear you compare war to a game of ****ing football would slap you.

I see your point. However, the chief wasn't the last of the Spartans. Not only were there a few remaining Spartan II's but there were entire squads of Spartan III's being trained.

Yea, Humanity was attacked without Provocation by an alien force with vastly superior technology, which could not only make pinpoint slipspace jumps (something the humans hadn't figured out yet) and the ability to glass entire planets.

Couple that with the fact that humanity was one race, whearas the covenant consisted of 7 races (which bears far greater numbers than the humans could have ever hoped for) then yea, I wouldn't expect humans to be able to make many major offensives.
