Newer SONY models are nearly impossible to hack, but it's been suggested that firmware may help. In any case, I still have my hacked Apex 1200AD if I need to watch anything multiregional, which is rare. I chose this particular player because of glowing reviews, and it's a great in between unit, especially for those waiting to see how the HD war pans out. I'm scouting my new reciever, looking to make a purchase next week, then it's on to speakers, and lastly my new HD set.
