Major Boothroyd cannot be replaced, but "Q" can. I thought Desmond Llewellyn was THE "Q", however, John Cleese, under Lee Tamahori's direction put in a really likable performance.

I thought Cleese was terrible in TWINE, and playing the "R" character as an idiot, however, with DAD, I really liked him, and was satisfied with the replacement.

I had hoped that Cleese would remain "R", and the "Q" designation would be retired, but the filmmakers probably thought that would confuse people.
