evolution was the most idiotic take on the lives of the x-men i can believe a just and loving god would allow to exist. TAS, while messing with some continuity and plot points, ultimately incorporated a good portion of the comics into the show, and was much more enjoyable despite the crappy voice acting.
i personally didnt like most of the evolution show but look at it from this angle...
i babysit some kids every now and then and they watch the show. before that they never seen anything x-men. they really got into it because the fact that the x-men were kids appealed to them. they love it when i tell them stories that i remember from x-men comics. i showed them some of my comics and now most of those kids i babysit read comics a lot. it brings in a younger audiance and is not really ment for us older people. if it gets some kids to want to read, then all the better.
I have to say I hated the first season of Evo...but about half way through the second it got pretty good. keep in mind in Evo the Xmen were teens in training not adults like the where in TAS. this could lead to more storys to be told. Don't get me wrong I loved the old Xmen cartoon...Cable, Bishop, Apocalypse, his horsemen, Mr. Sinister, the nasty boys, etc. but in Evo Apocalypse was a major badass, we got to see Legion, we got a ton more Nightcrawler, Scott wasn't as boyscout as he is in TAS. Basically TAS was following the comics, While Evo seemed to follow the Xmen films (miss marvel-less Rogue, the main villians in season one where the same brotherhood members from the first X film) storywise TAS is the clear winner, however Evo had better art and they could milk more episodes out of it...the last episode of Evo should clips of things to come. Dark Phoenix, Rogue flying (she got them miss marvel powers) Bastion. add in Mr. Sinister, Stfye, Cable , Bishop, Metal Wing Archangel, Hellfire Club, and made the Evo XMen hardcore adults, and Evo could have gave TAS a run for it's money.

TAS. But it had terrible dialogue. And Rogue's voice was like a bag of cats being clubbed to death.
some of it was pretty funny.
(Jubilee blows up an arcade machine)
Manager: you know how much that game cost!
Jubilee: yeah..a quarter.
Rogue: you know what happens when I touch someone...you want to end up in a hostipital?
Gambit: maybe it worth it no?
Bishop: (talking to wolverine) no wonder you sent me back to the past, cuz everything that happens is your fault.
Cable: time to wake up sleeping beauty (pour water on Wolverine face)
Wolverine: (coughing) what are ya trying to do drown me.
Bishop: (staring at two Gambit) so it was two of you..I guess I'll have to take you both out just to make sure.
some of the dialogue was moderately acceptable, but the speech itself was atrocious. characters speaking to eachother in the same conversation would continually shift their pronunciation of such words as "lilandra" and "genosha." wolvie would say it one way, cyke would say it another, wolvie would say it cyke's way, cyke would say it his way, wolvie would go back to saying it how he did first... it bothered me quite a heap. and beast and storm both contended for the "who sounds most like a cheap shakespeare rip-off" award...

i thought the voices in TAS were pretty true to who the characters were. The voices were dead on . What they said is another story. Can you picture a more perfect voice for Mr. Sinister ? Bishop, gambit , beast, cyke pretty much every one
Cable, Xavier and Apocalypse were pretty good too.
