ITS A MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!! people and its a pretty dumb yet sweet reason to send a bunch of guys to risk their lives to look for.

My only query with Saving Private Ryan was em, where were the Brits exactly?

picture this... you have four sons in the army. all of them decided to enlist. when the sh!t hit the fan, they got sent to iraq. three of them died within hours of each other's. wouldn't you want your last son back? imagine recieving four folded flags in ONE day.

You got something there. I think that was the main reason why the Government did that. The Ryan family send all their males to fight and two got killed. It involves the family bloodline. If Ryan dies he is the last man to carry the family name with him. Therefore the family coulda held the goverment liable for ending the family line.

yeah, it's only logic to send a squad in to safe one guy instead of already kicking him cause they knew they enlisted them all
you don't send a squad behind enemy lines to safe one guy who's only a soldier
