The election coverage in the main media is very misleading. While a very joyous occasion, even one such as it was made into a family day for some dishevelled Iraqis, the election has some falsehoods. For one: most Iraqis are voting because they believe that when the new government is elected, they will end the US occupation. So in a sense of things, they are voting to be rid of the US military. It has been lucid that the Iraqis do not want to be occupied anymore. With curfews and high security on hand, both aspects undermine the democratic act. And with almost all of the Sunnis boycotting, twenty percent of the population were not represented by this election.
Thus what will happen when the US do not leave? It is a sure recipe for disaster, considering President Bush has no timetable for his military to exit Iraq; in fact, Mr Bush is beginning to establish six permanent military bases in the occupied nation. The US is not going anywhere.
well duh, remember when the statue went down of Saddam. It was a great moment but it was all a show. Why only 300 Iraqis were there and usually there are thousands upon thousands at such moments. Most of the crowd was not Iraqi. Also they put the US flag on his face. So it is the greatest propaganda thing ever made. I thought such thing happened in fascist countries. The news is so sensitive now. Just show the dead bodies so people in the US won't think the war is okay. But no, bush wouldn't like that!!! He should put freedom in his backyard first!!!!!!

Is that a suprise to anyone? Like I noted before, The U.S. still has bases in Germany, Korea, Cuba and Japan. Once you put a base down you don't pull up stakes and leave. The Iraqis (and Americans) better get used to the idea that American Troops are going to be there for a long while.
