Thanks Lance. And yep, lightsabers will be touched up. I need to apply an effect called "Gaussian Blur" which can be easily accomplished in Adobe Photoshop. I use Adobe After Effects for the effects & green screening, than I chop it all together using Adobe Premiere, which is my favorite editing software by a long shot. Industry standard usually involves using Final Cut Pro on a Mac....but I'm more of a PC guy, and I find Premiere to be a better and more powerful editing program because you can easily integrate between all Adobe Products with Premiere. Final Cut is still good, and if you know Final Cut, you know Premiere and vice versa...they are both practically the same exact thing, but I just prefer Adobe in the end.

I'm a PC guy too, I was going to use a different program, but you make a great point about Adobe being easily integrated with itself. I use Photoshop all the time.

Yep, Photoshop is awesome. I highly recommend obtaining Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 or CS4 for editing. It is absolutely fantastic. There's a small learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it's smooth sailing.

I started editing on a software called "Pinnacle Studios" some 7 years ago. Program was absolutely horrid. It's good for teaching the basics of editing video and slicing it on a timeline, but the thing would randomly swap music tracks around...small projects would take over 20 minutes to load....it would randomly crash, and best of all, it had problems exporting video. Good god. Then I made the jump to Premiere (the earlier version) and have been in heaven ever since.

CS5 just came out, so u may want to invest in getting the Master Collection of that or CS4. You'll get Premiere, After Effects, Encore, Sound Booth(which comes in handy), etc. You also get On Location, but i havent messed with that software yet, so i dont really know what all you get with it.

Oh yeah, I plan on getting CS5 Master Collection. It will come in handy for many projects.

It will indeed. There's also a good sound program called Adobe Audition. Great for sound mixing and removing background noises....although that can get a little tricky.

this is what all u get with master collection of CS4. not sure if its the same as CS5's but it can give u and idea.

the main software you need for video/audio making are in purple.

i dont care for Device Centreal. i honestly dont remember if its for video or photoshop... i really don't care, it's dumb to me. you import cell phone and stuff like onto w/e ur working on.

if u just download/buy Premiere, you MUST download/buy Media Encore, or u wont be able to export any of your videos.

And how much is that?

i'm sure over 1grand for CS4. but since i'm a student i get discounts on Journey Ed website. all you have to do is scan and email them your student ID.

One grand? You might as well by a decent video editing system like AVID or Final Cut Pro.

That's just adobe for you. I'm tired of them coming out with the next CS# and there only be like 4 differences compaired the to previous.

Exactly.

Premiere is as decent of a an editing system as it gets. We also have Avid at my school and I can't stand it. In fact, none of us can. lol I agree though that their updates aren't all that fantastic. I just got the Master Collection of CS4 not all that long ago, and honestly, I don't feel the need to upgrade to CS5.

Final Cut is good, but Premiere is the same exact thing, and I think the overall interface is more well laid out. I've been using both for over 5 years, and I've always liked Premiere better. I know Final Cut is what most companies use because they think that Macs are better for video editing, but in all honesty, there's not a major difference whether you do your work on a mac or PC. You just need the proper specs built in to your computer, and you're good. My school is a MAC based environment, but I can assure everyone I've pulled the same exact work off using my very own PC laptop.

I never used avid. They had it at our school but it was used in this teacher who does music and makes videos for the school. Avid isn't a cheap software to buy.

AVID is great. But true, you have to know how to handle it. I don't know which I prefer though AVID or FCP... They both have their gripes and their plusses. But all in all... AVID does force you to work more disciplined. And that is good. It prevents a mess.

Well I suppose that may be true, but I still couldn't get into using Avid. Maybe I'm being biased. lol

As for Lance, believe me when I tell you, Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, Encore...have all those programs and you'll have everything you need to put together a movie. It's used by enough professional's out there that you won't be missing out on anything. Sounds like a lot, and it takes time and patience to learn everything, but once you know them, there's nothing you really can't do.

Mac has Final Cut, Motion (which fails epically in comparison to After Effects) Livetype and Soundpro...which are all good too if you use a Mac, but again, I always preach about the "interface" and I'm a firm believer that nobody has the interface down better than Adobe.

I like Premiere personally.

But we all know Windows Movie Maker takes the win. Hahaha.

Yay for Sweersa! Premiere rocks! 😎

Oh yeah, forgot about Windows Movie Maker......guess we need to back to square one and relearn everything. lol

💃

the only downside i can think of about Premiere, is that is you dont have good hardware... you are NOT going to be able to run it. LOL

premiere looks like it would be a real hassle to use, because the interface is quite intimidating, but i never had a issue trying to figure out how to do something. the only thing i forgot how to do, once, was to create a sub clip.

i'm starting to make videos using PhotoShop now. once you learn how Premiere's keyframes works, in the timetime, you can make anything on PhotoShop.

this was the 1st thing i made on photoshop's animation, but by being bored. i didnt need a tutorial.
