Asking the United States to cut down 5.2% (later changed to 2%) of their pollution from the 90's, while growing at the rate that it has been growing is simply put....impossible. That's why Bush said the US would never sign the treaty.
The problem with hi-tech, low pollution products and industries is that it is very expensive to not only develop, but introduce as well.
The Toyota Prius (a hybrid car) sells at a base price of $20,875 in the United States.
What other cars does Toyota produce at a base price under $20,000?
The Echo
The Corolla
The Celica
The Camry
The Matrix
The Solara
The Rav4
and 3 different versions of the Tacoma truckNow tell me the honest to God truth..would you pay $3,000 more for hybrid vehicle when all of those more luxurious, faster, more attractive cars are available at a cheaper price?
I don't even have the mental capacity to fully comprehend the expense that a company would have to undergo to:
a.) design low polluting manufacturing equipment/machines
b.) build them
c.) maintain themAll I know is that it most certainly won't be a small loss.
Ok. But these companys (In the cars field) have known that just a slightly different carb system could sort out the gas comsumption by as much as 50% more economical efficiency.
But the patent was bought by the very companies who stand to lose because of it, and that patent is sitting in a dusty drawer somewhere instead of doing the good it could've done.
I agree by the way that other countries should've joined up on the Kyoto agreement....But as the US government wants to lead, maybe they should start by example. Inspire people! It works a lot more effectively than strangling the lives of the others your gonna lead...
And as far as extreme expense and loss goes for the larger corperations goes, if anyone in the world at all can afford it, its the richer companies of the states... By why bother huh...?
Why not instead cain the gas until its gone, then take over another country and strip it of ITS resources... Much easier on their wallets huh...
Their loss wouldn't affect the average Joe as much as they make out.
In the "Tax Hike" culture of the moment, its clear that the little guy doesn't see a whole lot of their profits anyhow...right...?
How weird especially in this case that "the root of all evil" IS money,
Yet more evils are committed so the chase for MORE money can go on...
