>Superman of the 853rd Century was the ages-old descendant of the modern Superman. His Kryptonian DNA -- though diluted through centuries of inter-species breeding -- blessed him with incredible Kryptonian-derived powers; today's Superman's powers . . . taken to the Nth degree.
>These powers were positively amended by centuries of evolution as well as the Superman Dynasty's inter-breeding with 5th Dimension (magic) royalty and the Solaris-facilitated inheritance of the "powers of the Heisenberg Principle" (awesome quantum powers).
>Upon returning from thousands of years' exile in deep space, our Superman -- now known as Superman Prime -- returned with powers and abilities gleaned "from beyond space and time" and established a covenant with his children: in return for their perpetual allegiance to Superman's moral code and the "never ending battle," Superman Prime would empower them with "powers far beyond those possessed by any metahuman" in history. To administer these powers to his descendants, Superman transformed Earth's star into the Super Sun (which was so hot not even our Superman could not approach it!) and bequeated his gifts via amped-up cosmic radiation. Pleased with the formation of this covenant, Superman retreated into solar hibernation -- entrusting the Universe to his dynasty's care.
>What powers did Superman 853 and (presumably) his cousins possess? The short answer? All of them.
>For now, let's just say that he was powerful enough to halt billions of rocketing stars and planets -- merely by looking at them!
And yet here's more:
>Apparently, he had become a matter/energy/reality manipulator of the highest order.
>Then he went into hibernation in the core of the sun for 15,000 years. He transformed the sun into the "Supersun" and he basically BECAME the sun, much like the Skyfather of Krypton, Rao. (Superman basically became Rao the Skyfather, as I see it.)
>From his solar fortress of solitude, he administered powers "from the edge of time and space" to his descendants so long as they pledged to serve Earth. These powers put them beyond any metahuman ever in the DCU. Besides Superman Prime granting his descendants the full package of Superman's super-powers (and at Pre Crisis level, to boot: extinguishing a red giant star with the superbreath, igniting stars with heat vision, "more powerful than the gravity from a black hole", superintelligence, FTL speed, etc.), his descendants also enjoyed a slew of additional powers, including but not limited to: "force vision", super-telekinesis, super-ESP, as well as undisclosed 5th dimensional magic powers.
>All of these vast abilities were administered to his descendants by the Superman Prime from his solar fortress.
>Captain Kal estimated that as he was the power source for his descendants, the Superman Prime probably enjoyed a power level 10x that of his descendants.
>In the year 853,000, the Superman Prime left his solar fortress, gained the last Green Lantern ring, and apparently used his matter/energy/reality warping abilities to reconfigure the "it only works for Kyle Ryner" mechanism of the ring.
>Superman Prime then resurrected Lois Lane as a cosmic being like himself ; created a new planet ; and resurrected from the dead a population of 10 million Kryptonians who had been dead 853,000 years.
>I would guess his powers were not limited to superstrength/flight/heat vison etc., but rather he was transformed into a Dr.Solar/Dr. Manhattan/Molecule Man/-type who could "do anything" with his matter/energy/reality manipulation abilities.
>He could molecularly reconstruct matter, such as the sun, as well as organic matter, such as his descendants; and probably manipulate space/time as when he brought back the "souls" fo his long dead ancestors and wife.
Here's some info. on Superman of the 853rd Century:
>His DNA was no longer recognizably Kryptonian...so he was either not vulnerable to Kryptonite or that vulnerability was greatly reduced.
>And magic? While magic was a great foil for Pre Crisis Superman, the Superman descendant of the 853rd Century had extra magical powers thrown in because one of his ancestors was the Empress of the 5th dimension and thus more powerful than Mxyzptlk.
>While the extent of his magical prowess was undisclosed, we know he gained 8 entirely new senses (added to Superman's already incredible senses) by the addition of 5-D blood.
>He also demonstrated super-ESP.
>In addition to the full complement of "normal" Superman powers, and whatever 5-D magical powers he had, he also demonstrated: "force-vison", and "super-telekinesis".
>So, Kryptonite and magic no longer posed any challenge for the Superman of the 853rd Century. Did he have ANY weaknesses?
>Yes, one Achilles' heel: his power was entirely administered by the Super-sun, the Superman Prime of the 853rd Century. Separated from it his powers would dwindle rapidly.
>Superman of the 853rd Century was the second most powerful Superman ever, after the Superman Prime of course who was the administrator of power for the entire Superman dynasty.
superman prime
So what can we conclude? Not sure, but given what SP's descendants could do, and that SP was the source of those powers, I wouldn't exactly chalk up a victory for The Keeper with certainty. SP sounds like a being that could easily defeat a celestial, and even at Galactus' peak, he has a hard time defeating even one of those suckers.
Kind of a hard thread
Superman Prime appeared once in a story where half-Kryptonian/5th dimensional imps in huge numbers have powers that would make PC-Superman blush. He basically sat around godlike and pulls of some mindboggling stuff while holding insanely powerful toys.We only see him once but it was a pretty killer story
Pheonix is in X-Men the most pompus irriating comic in exiestence right now.The X-Movies are the only thing keeping marvel in one piece and with another one coming out which will have Pheonix shes now being made into a being sitting above Eternity. Its BS which wont last will be retro-conned no more than 2 years afetr the movie just like the External formerly know as Cannoball or Cosmic Cube Beyonder
So what do we have the flagship character of DC being give 1 story where they pump him up as much as they could concive of or a character who has been canged 548 times since her 1 good story 30 years ago and now how sme temporary hype thats basicallty a movie promo
So true, because Singer and Morrison spent hours on end discussing Phoenix as she related to both of their respective mediums. Morrison sculpted his entire run around an idea that Singer didn't have until filming began for the second movie. After all, we know that Marvel can't attempt to fix a character that they totally screwed up years ago.

speak for yourself 🙄
Superman is the most boring comic superhero with any fame whatsoever, despite the fact that he has 6 million different incarnations (Red Sun, KC, Prime, Pre-crisis, regular post-crisis, 853, 1 million, blahblahblah) in futile attempts to make him interesting.

but when its all said and done comics wouldn't be what they are if it wasnt 4 superman.
of course. We'd still have superhero comics of course, it would just be different. A character like Superman is kind of inevitable anyway, becuase his powers are so bland and easily conceived.

Yet his death was a worldwide event. If all the x-men died, they would be quickly forgotten outside of hardcore fans.
Answering the topic. If the phoenix force is that powerful, then even prime cannot stand up to a force like that.

That's pure opinion. You wouldn't care, because you aren't an X-Men fan. Don't speak on behalf of the world. To tell the truth, I didn't even know that Superman had died and returned until last year, and DOS occured in 1993.

Not an opinion at all, I remember reading it in the papers, mags, and seeing it on the news. At the time, I wasnt even reading supes comics...I was reading x-men, spidey, and thor like everyone else. Hell, even my parents and teachers had spoken about it. Maybe it was a New york thing.
Supes has gone to the point where he is considered a mythos, and an icon all over the world for all ages.
X-men are very popular, but they aren't at that point.

I was in grade school in 1993, and I hadn't heard anything about DOS. The X-Men aren't quite at Superman's level of worldwide popularity, but they've had their impact.
Everything matters to those to whom it matters. Just because people know doesn't mean that people really care. A large part of the reason that more people know characters like Superman and Batman is because of the TV and the movies. Those characters had a much higher profile than the X-Men have in the past. That's changing. Marvel has never been particularly good at the whole individual superhero bit.
Incidentally, I never knew that Superman died until it was mentioned on this board. Of course, I'm not the best person to gauge by: I haven't been reading comics but a couple years.
It doesn't matter though. Dark Phoenix would rape and pillage him in every way possible.
Let’s be objective (Ignore my sig pic lol). I understand the Superman Prime is very powerful, he has a fancy sword and ring. But at the end of the day Superman Prime may be god-like, but Phoenix isn’t god-like she IS basically a god and Dark Phoenix is a very pi$$ed off Phoenix, that lacks any morals so I find it hard to see how any incarnation of Superman could defeat Dark Phoenix.
Dark Phoenix doesn’t access cosmic power as some have said her power is intrinsic. She IS infinite cosmic force. She’s a cosmic entity representing the flow of ALL life in the universe in possession of a human body with psionic abilities, so that among other things she has absolute power over thought and an awareness of all things in the multiverse. (Again among other things) she can manipulate matter at a subatomic scale and alter reality, she soars through deep space, absorb energy on a incalculable level, and open star gates between points in space.
The difference between the two is simple. One is a being that draws its power from solar energy, and has been doing so for a very long time. The other is a being that draws its power from all life past, present and future that’s probably been around since the dawn of time itself. Superman Prime can be deprived of a power source, DP cannot.
C’mon she EATS supernovas for kicks. She cannot be destroyed, I don’t think I can recall when she’s ever been completely destroyed.
Also I don’t understand why SP gets to have weapons (sword and ring)? DP should get to have a weapon too, like a big hunk of green Kryptonite heh.
Even with his props I don’t think he’s a match for DP, she could tear him apart proton by proton if she wanted to.
PS About the Silver Surfer. Not sure how people assume that SP would win flat out. Galactus probably put some thought into choosing who would be his Herald, so Silver Surfer’s no pushover.
