Yeah, I did the denial thing too after I was abducted.

Absolutely... NOT!

As far I am concerned, aliens do not exist. Never have, and never will.

Think what you will about me, but I will never believe that aliens exist.

As science marches on the idea that life is a freak accident or something that can only happen under a very slim set of conditions is becoming less and less accepted.

I can understand if you think we'll never encounter alien life (particularly of the "intelligent" variety) but it's simply ludicrous to suggest with any degree of assurance that with the vastness of the Universe Earth is the only place that can support life.

The jury is still out on whether or not its the only place in our solar system that can support life, now that they've discovered life forms in parts of the planet that we previously believed would be totally barren.

Obviously they're finally about to admit that we're all descended from the Pak.

I don't believe there is Aliens not sure why I guess I had not seen anyway how they would exist.

How do we exist?

What do you mean?

he means if we could come to be, so could aliens by the same process in another planet

Honestly with the vastness of the Universe I don't see how they can't exist.

The processes that made life on Earth aren't nearly as fragile as scientists once thought. If life can exist in zero light inside of a sulfur vent at the bottom of the ocean...

From the point of view of someone on another planet (an alien), we would be the alien. They might ask: How would an alien exist? The answer would be: In the same way you do.

but there is still no way to know the probability of those conditions existing on other planets, and the conditions that life on earth is able to thrive in says nothing about life on other planets

No, but to say its impossible, or even unlikely is baseless.

oh shoot...

i wonder what the annoucement will be?

Imaging that... "My fellow Americans; planet earth, intelligent alien life has been found." followed by a roaring ovation heard the world over..

It'll be a grand day for us atheists.

I'd hold my mouth agape because although i know that a finding like this is inevitable i just never thought it would happen in my lifetime with our limited technology. But that kept fading more and more after i kept reading about potential life harboring extrasolar planet findings.

I'm very excited. Even if it's bacterium, it'll still, in a way, be one step closer to the anihilation of God and religion and the discovery of something potentially great. Or the advancement of human civilization.

Let's hope it's intelligent life. (the beneficial kind)

In no way would the discovery of alien life, even intelligent life end religion. If anything we'd just see more and more UFO cults spring up.

exactly

to make any stance on the issue has no basis in anything statistical. Probability cannot be said to be in favor of or against life on other planets, we simply do not know.

It would.

Ignorant believers of God would start to ask questions. Their bible has all the answers and when they see or hear of such a discovery they'll look to their bibles and find nothing..

Which'll be the start of the begining, or rather, the begining of the end of ignorance, for the hypnotized masses of religion.

And new age may come out of this.

WASHINGTON -- NASA will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. EST on Thursday, Dec. 2, to discuss an astrobiology finding that will impact the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life. Astrobiology is the study of the origin, evolution, distribution and future of life in the universe.

The news conference will be held at the NASA Headquarters auditorium at 300 E St. SW, in Washington. It will be broadcast live on NASA Television and streamed on the agency's website at http://www.nasa.gov.

Holy shit. The hell did they find?

wow

Except it won't.

People who believe in any literal interpretation of the Bible (the kind that would be shaken by the discovery of extraterrestrial life) already like to ignore the mountains of scientific evidence against literal interpretations. This won't change that at all.

Not at all? I doubt that.

the religious will seek answers. and some, hopefully many, would turn because of that lack of it because like many of the things they have no proof of but can explain can be reasonably backed up by the bible. But scientifically speaking, astrobiology, is not in the bible. And when they see hard evidence, proof they can see and hold, they'll turn in droves.
