i do recognise good music, and their load and reload albums, while perhaps not as good as what they'd previously put out, was a lot different to be bad music. if you have influences from all sorts of music and feel in touch with the lyrics any song can make you like it, i found connection with several of them. ok so most people obviously havent, but, most of those people are hardcore metal fans.... metallica, the creators of early metal(as it was), changing so radically frightened and infuriated most of their fans because they dont realise what bands influenced metallica.
I dont think Load and Reload suck, its just that IMO their music became of less quality at that point.

megadeth 'devolving' was a joke, but perhaps evolving, the darwin theory that is, is about changing for the better. as the person who posted before me said that megadeth had gone more 'poppy', which may not be a good change. did metallica change for the better? certainly not in a money/business way... but musically? i do beleive so.
Well, here we get into the opinion-based stuff. IMO Load and Reload were not musicely better then anything before 1992.

even if you dont like the music they produced, it helped them as far as being able to experiment, which in turn helped them make the S&M album, which, is an epic piece of musicry. of course, even more fans were lost because of their dislike of classical music, but hammett and burton were trained classically in parts of their teachings, and the early stuff, particularly songs like call of the ktulu and master of puppets, show how easily classical music fitted with the 'epicness' of these songs.
SM is good, though the song choice could have been a lot better. But I doubt the path to making SM started with Load, seeing as the songs that work best with an orchestra are the old songs. I think they would have made SM regardless of what direction their music would have gone.

again, many people dont like classical and cannot see this, which is fair enough. many people are not open to a band doing something different. again... fair enough. but if you cant at least respect the fact they've always done what they want, which they've done from the beginning, go elsewhere.
I very much like bands not doing the same thing all the time. And that's why I like Megadeth so much. They changed their style and sound on almost every album. Megadeth's catalog is a lot more diverse then Metallica's. And I do respect a band doing what they want, but in Metallica's case, the music just doesnt resonate.
