In fact, the first recording of the song, which appeared on the first metal massacre album, was recorded before dave was even in the band.

Megadeth have tried to stick to their Thrash roots where as Metallica flit to-and-from that's not to say it's a bad thing as both bands have created some stone cold classics - both album and song wise, and there's no denying their input onto the metal landscape.
And on that note I say no-score draw as I like both in equal measure (but much prefer Slayer 😉 )
I think it's obvious that Metallica obviously created more imposing tunes. Yeah, both bands are from the same blood but one band had better musicians and consistency and that band is Metallica. Metallica and Megadeth were both pioneers of their genre, but Metallica refined and perfected metal. Metallicas final product was like a fine wine that fulfills the pallet and teases the senses everytime. Megadeth is the good ol' reliable beer. The brew gets the job done and although it has a full body and a good kick, it's not quite as satisfying or pleasing as the fine wine.
