If one must be coerced or forced into reciting the pledge of allegiance, it becomes meaningless.

geez, this is America. The pledge of allegiance is more of a childish ritual .... just stand for the few minutes mumble the words and go about your day. Look to some there's still an aspect of respect for this country....let them have their 3 minute pledge, then go back to scrawling ABCs or something

If it is such a "childish ritual", why bother to "stand for a few minutes and mumble the words" to the meaningless "3 minute pledge" at all?

The Pledge is to have Allegiance to the USA. I don't have a problem with it. Why would anybody? I think if you were given a choice to either say it with everyone else, or be silent, most everyone would say it.

You're very mistaken... A lot of kids don't say it. And, as stated before, a fair number don't even stand up.

And it seems a little obvious why somebody wouldn't want to say it. Like if they didn't want to pledge allegience to the US for whatever reason.

Nobody I know actually says it besides some teachers and a select few students. Most of us just stand up and shut up for 30 seconds..

wow...unbelievable.

I don't know any groups like that.....I must live in another world.

There are some people who won't even take a leak, even if they've been holding it for 20 hours, if someone tells them to do it. You should probably learn to deal with it.

It is not that big of a deal. The pledge takes about twenty seconds to say. How is twenty seconds so taxing?

That is entirely not the point. When one testifies before a court that he will "tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth," is it then okay for him to lie? I mean, it's not that big of a deal to pledge an oath you really don't mean. It only takes about twenty seconds to say, how is twenty seconds so taxing?

But they don't have to pledge allegiance they just hav e to stand up and shut up. Its a sign of respect, nothing more, I do that when the national anthym of another country is played during football games, that doesn't mean I love that country or that I would do anything for it, I just respect the people that do.

Speaking of which, Bardock, since I notice you're from Germany and you're talking about national anthems, I went to the Rowing Medal Rounds of the Olympics in 1996 in Gainesville, Georgia, and I swear that Germany had about 10 gold medals that day. That means the German National Anthem played about 10 times that day. It was bizarre but also told me how powerful Germany Rowing is, I guess.

I couldn't tell you now how it goes, but at the time, for about a week all I could hear in my head was the German National Anthem.

Hahah, yeah we got pretty decent rowers. Actually that seems to be the only thing we are good anymore 😬.
