but yes.......hair itself was evolved to protect the sensative mammalian skin. this however is not what I said earlier. I stated the humans LOSING most of their hair is do to evolution. As we humans began walking upright, it was harder to maintain our internal temperature as more of our bodies were exposed to direct sunlight, heat. This combined with the shrinking of our jaw line (as we no longer needed it) to produce a smaller mouth/tongue resulting in the reduction of our ability to pant (you do know what that is right?) brought about a new way for our bodies to cool themselves.........more sweat glands......which allowed for persperation from the entire epidermis, not just the mouth, tongue. For sweat glands to work properly......humans had to lose most of our hair. It was a trade off......our bodies can now easily regulate our internal temperatures.........but leaves our sensitive skin open to the sun. When's the last time you saw a gorilla with skin cancer?
