Again... we are not adding the letters directly. The system used s only one. Not mixed. Not invented. Just one.
And that is through SUBSTITUTION.
VICARIVS FILII DEI is Latin therefore Roman. So we used Roman numerals for substitution.
How to use substitution process?
Simple: V=5, I=1, C=100, L=50, D=500, others=0.
Then addition is suggested.
So we cannot think of IV as 4. Because it suggest I+V which is 1+5. Therefore 6.

you forgott the month in that little mathemathical display of yours, april second is written either april 2 , 02/04 or 04/02 so you cant leave out the month. Also the clock can be said to be 09:37 depends on what way you see it
