Not "Jews," "Israel." There's a distinction. Building a huge wall of concrete tends to give people the impression that you're not in the mood to talk things over. Shall we go over historical precedents? Allrighty then. China built the Great Wall in order to keep the Mongols out. There wasn't ever a diplomatic meeting between the Chinese and the Mongols to work out the whole "killing each other" thing. Next one that comes to mind is the Berlin Wall, which stood for 28 years before anyone decided to talk about letting Germans be Germans and not "East" or "West" Germans.
Or how about the expression "stonewalled?" What does that mean? Oh, right. It means being a real prick and purposely being obstructive.
east Indians and Chinese are breaking out of the stereotypes. I blame media but i do think young people educated from India and china can do mental math much faster then your average American. Its nothing special, when they were young the teachers made them do the multiplication table ever day.
The two problems here are after grade 5 and such the school sort of let you go and forget about trying to make you write neatly and knowing the table by heart.
my god...there are so many steriotyped groups....i hardly think asians are at the top (well, not in america) i think jewish americans, african americans, white americans, and latino americans are the most steriotyped. the reason being that these groups tend to tolerate jokes at their own expense, quite often among eachother, and have fun with it. you can especially see this with standup comedians.
i think so long as its not offensive, its no big deal. why should we claim to live in a culture which 'celebrates diversity', and yet refuse to acknowledge it.
italians used to be up on that list, but i think the tired old mafia steriotyping has just killed any humor in that.

A lack of members of a given race to speak up in their defense usually leads to the rampant perpetuation of stereotypes. You must live in a rather nice area....
Not everyone lives in metro areas. The town I work in is below the poverty line and very rural. Not exactly a haven for people from the Far East, huh?
