Well, I like Moffat, though I have a lot of respect for RTD too.
Now, I am hearing a very interesting critical vibe about this coming episode- that it is much better than last week's (not that last week's was bad, just... average), but that this has a lot more to do with
Spoiler:.
the story's shocking integration into the series plotline, rather than the Silurian story itself
One of the specifics of this relates to a rumour I heard before the series started, but that I thought had been debunked as there was no sign of it happening yet. Too big a spoiler to post- I'll say after transmission whether this turned out to be so or not.
But there are two other major specifics too, that form part of this shift in quality. Which are also too huge for me to mention.
Well, all of the potential rumours I talked of above came true.
Spoiler:
Rory did die, the crack did eat him and the long-standing rumour was about the Doctor finding the piece of the TARDIS.To clarify, the original rumour was that the Doc would find a piece of the TARDIS in every episode, suggesting it was going to be destroyed in future. As this didn't seem to be happening, it had been debunked, but now it seems it had some basis in fact. People are going back and searching episodes for any evidence there are TARDIS bits there as well.
For all that, though, the episode still underwhelmed me. Bit slow, no real surprises except in the standard, Chibnal sense and just... generic all around.
Obviously the last ten minutes changed that, but that was all Moffat- and even then, somehow I was not as emotionally affected as I might have thought. The dream version two weeks ago had more dramatic power to it.
I wish they would stop reminding us where we first saw the
Spoiler:
cracks though... that's the second time they have had a flashback edit to Pond as a child and the crack in her room.
We can remember things Moffatt. 😛
I enjoyed the episode, but this far into the series, I'm not big on the actress who plays Amy Pond. I actually prefered watching Meera Syal.
Tbh I'm finding that people prefer the ending rather than the rest of the story but thats because of the major impact that the ending did have I found it ironic that
Spoiler:😖
Rory said he trusted the Doctor with his life in that episode and then dies near the end of the episode, why would they kill off Rory though
Not really a memorable episode, don't let Richard Curtis near Doctor Who again, and a cheesy use of a song at the end of the episode.
A dodgy mutated turkey with a mohican too this week...
I did like the art aspects of the episode though, seeing Van Gogh paint
Spoiler:like his painting style.
over his own painting to show what the creature looked like, Pond and her sunflowers(especially at the end, a nice touch) and a brilliant part near the end where they are watching the night sky and it all swirls
