Now, personally, I thought that was a perfectly acceptable episode- not a classic and a boring resolution but solid. But so far the reaction on the fan forums are lurching towards the negative. Poor Mark! Well, I always give it 24 hours before I see where the fan mood has gone so we'll see.
My only problem with Victory of the Daleks, but it was a huge one, is how they overcame the imminent bomb explosion with "feeling human." One of my biggest pet peeves for any character, series, genre, etc. is internal consistency. And, zany as it can get, DW always has a certain rationale to whatever is going on (or it's deliberately left vague for the mysterious ambiguity feeling). But a human-shaped bomb built by the Daleks, overcoming said bomb by remembering implanted human memories...goes beyond even DW logic by a long way. Otherwise, I actually wouldn't have minded the episode at all.

Not much for horror tales, just a general thing with me. It would've been hard to really impress me with this last episode given the limitations and tendencies of the genre. Basically I just ride along knowing I won't be super into most episodes, only to nerd all over the place in the last 2-3 when the universe starts being on the line. Hardly an objective criteria, but I'm honest about my tastes.
I just watched "Midnight" again and I'm still convinced that it is the best stand-alone episode. Very tight casting, and the close-shots mixed with group reactions keeps the mood personal (and creepy).
I was more tense watching that episode again (for the fourth time?) than watching Night Terrors for the first. I felt like everything in this most recent episode was supposed to be frightening, as though it was making a conscious effort to speak the language. It all felt a bit forced, though.
Well, that episode wasn't quite what I had expected (the preview made me think more of that one X-Files episode, First Person Shooter)...but it was good. Better than last week's. So yay.
I couldn't hear the end very well cause my brother and mother decided that would be a good time to talk however....the episode was quite good...could someone tell what the...alien said to doctor at the end...all I heard was that he said something and Doctor thought the alien was talking about himself but he was actually talking about the doctor.
I had a feeling it was not looking good by last weeks advert and yes it was a rather drull. I have to agree if they the writers are not going to write a decent Cybermen story, don't bother.
So the Doctor has to age what was it..200 odd years before he gets zapped! Then again writers can do what they want, we shall see how good the ending is next week.
I actually thought the last two were good one-offs. Much better than the apartment complex horror film one (forget the name).
The one in the "prison" had some necessary character development for Amy, and was clever enough to be cool. The most recent episode with the Cybermen was fine...I don't think it needed to be more epic than it was. It was basically about the Doctor coming to terms with his end, and the "fine, I'll save the world one more time" worked well with such a classic villain.
Really, the first two episodes of this 2nd half of the season (Let's Kill Hitler and the one I mentioned earlier) were easily the worst. It's been good since then imo.
Ok so... yeah., Hmm.
The central plotline that Moffat has put into Doctor Who had a lot of potential but right now I feel it is absolutely in the doldrums; I feel very disconnected from it all.
We have no real answers as to what happened at the end of Matt Smith's first season, we have an immensely dull get-out clause for this season's schtick, and now we have a new one for next year which I'd like to look forward to but I am somewhat shaken in confidence.
I cannot see it ever all making as much sense as it should.
