USH'S LORD OF THE RINGS GAME PART 3- The Tournament and the Traitor

Added to which...

... Kelvar, whilst he does not know the details, can tell you that the main strategic difference in opinion is between the Hawks and the Doves- the Doves think that Arthedain should see to its own security, and continue Arvedui's drive to improve the power and fortunes of the realm, whilst the Hawks believe that Arthedain should actively invade- either Rhudaur or Angmar.

So does Kelvar know who eactly is a member of each school of thought? Amongst the Lords, I mean.

I don't think I would. I'm just a Military scout.

Nope, he's not really privy to politics.

Ah, just wondering. Well, ignoring my previous introduction

Darvan turns to Ellothiel and Kelvar, and bows slightly,
"My lady, good sir, I am Darvan Leafbrook. Perhaps," he asks Kelvar, "You would be willing to act as a better guide than I for this fair lady. Although I have been tasked with such an enjoyable job, I am without doubt that you would know the city far better than I, and I would be delighted to discover more about it."

Kelvar nods." as you wish sir".

Well, you can all be one big happy family, I am sure.

You may have noted from the above chronology that Arthedain has not always been the nicest of nations, nor Arnor the most forward-thinking of Realms. In its defence, Gondor has had just as many troubles and only recently came out of a Civil War itself- the Elves despair further still.

The point is that King Arvedui has been a very good King indeed- Arthedain has become strong and revitalised. It is he who has opened up this call for being of all peoples to come visit Arthedain, and rumour has it that he has been in contact with Gandalf himself.

Oooooo, lucky man.

So, we need to find something to do. Tourny practice, maybe?!

You may organise that amongst yourselves.

Should you wish to join Arevedui's crusade against evil, of course, there is plentymore to find out.

Indeed, but I am at somewhat of a loss of how to do so. Is Arvedui swelling the army at all? Presumably Kelvar would know that.

They are certainly trying as hard as they can; recent moves have been to recruit as many Cardolani refugees as possible.

Still, grunt work isn't really your style.

No, I wasn't meaning to sign up, just trying to get an overall picture of Arvedui's position (Hawk or Dove).

So, everyone knows there is a danger up north, but I was wondering if he was swelling an army for an invasion or simply for guard duty - just trying to work it out...

Good question. Mind you, the loss of Embylosse left a bit of a recruiting gap.

Arvedui's recent overtures have been diplomatic. That whole business in Baranar was about finding allies in Cardolan.

Ah, but is securing an alliance for mutual defence, or to assure himself that if he invades Cardolan won't attack in turn...

I wonder if there's a way to find that out.

Could well be! Feel free to go ask people.

Right, well, presumably the best people to ask that for are the Royals, or Gorlim, again.

Is there a Cardolan ambassador in court?

Cardolan as a nation no longer exists.

Ah, yes, because lots of lords were opposed to Baranar's alliance.

So, theoretically, that means lots of Cardolan lords don't approve of alliance, but if Arvedui has the borderlands of Cardolan secured, then he can concentrate the mass of his forces on Angmar and Rhuadar, and since he is currently (probably) trying to rebuild Embylmosse (?) that leaves only the border with Rhuadar open... Now, he can either secure that, or invade, but I expect he plans to invade...

Embylosse had taken years! Any replacement won't be practical for a long time.

If I remmeber correctly the Cardolan lords were scared of losing their independence. I tihnk with Embylosse gone he has a huge problem on the defensive side of things. so I seriously doubt he is planning a major offensive campaign.
