Heh, he's not trying to kill you! But Argentis would probably be happy to spar against more than one of you at once.

We're ready when you are Ush.

Ok, the two of you square up against each other... it's easy enough, totally open environment. No bonuses from decent swords for this fight of course!

Ok, stats...

Argentis: 5/69/40/136 (Longsword/Shield)

Kelvar: -20/27/30/65 (Longsword/Shield)

Which is, in order:

Manoeuvre/Offensive score/Defensive Score/Stamina.

I can just make this go sequentially and do the whole fight pretty fast unless anyone has any specific tactics to employ. With the higher M&M score (more used to the Chain Mail), Argentis is striking first each round.

Yup. My character is way outclassed.

My personal recommendation to you is to have spent a development point increasing your one-handed edged; as a Dunadan you started with that at 10, and you need to keep at least one offensive score as high as possible.

At the end of the day, though, this is a Level 3 combat specialist you are up against!

*after a few paces left to right and right to left I charge with full force into Kelvar, holding my shield in front of me. I make a quick faint spin around and try to catch him off-guard*

In game terms: no extra defence, my 40 wins it from his 27 so he needs a good roll to get me anywayz, full attack.

I did.

Ah, I see, ok. In that case... you may want to consider lowering Presence (which is pretty high for a non-Elf) and increasing either Agility or Strength to bump your fighting power a bit.

True. But It's too late now.

No worries there- whilst people are still getting used to the rules, characters may be tinkered with, during this storyline.

For my attack I'm going ot switch 2 extra points to defense I guess and use the rest.

Ok, first blow from Argentis rolls a 72- taking no prisoners! Final result is 109.

Still, Chain protects well, and that is an 11A.

To explain LOTR damage- the number is stamina lost. That's all superficial damage freom being bashed around, bleeding, in pain, and so on. Run out of stamina and you pass out.

The bigger problem is always the wound, which can have all sorts of nasty effects, Wounds range from A (light) to F (extreme), and I have another table to roll on for the effect. However, we shall also be using 'T' criticals in this fight, which is a class below A for truly light (ish) wounds

These weapons always do a wound two levels less than rolled, so that takes us less than even a T, so no wound at all.

Kelvar strikes back with a 48- taken easily on Argentis' shield.

Mind you, Argentis should not be over-confident, rolling a 01 on his next attack and needing to save his fumble... which he does, in time to repel a 29 from Kelvar.

Then a 43 from Argentis bashes another six stamina out of Kelvar (who has a lot of stamina for a level 1 guy, must be said); a 57 in return is no good. Argentis keeps up his full-powered and brutal attacks, and though Kelvar fends off a 13, a 14 in reuten is little better. Then another six from Kelvar, nothing good in return, and Argentis slams in once more, for another 11A (no wound, and Kelvar misses again.

You break apart for a few moments, Kelvar looking very battered.

Argentis: 5/69/40/136 (Longsword/Shield)

Kelvar: -20/27/30/37 (Longsword/Shield)

Woh. I'm almost down. Same thing, but I'm going with none to defense, and jsut pure attack.

I hold back a tiny little bit, adding 5 to defence besides that I show no intention of quiting except when Kelvar is down.

Kelvar manages to slip away from Argentis' following 13, but cannot hit home with a 42, before argentis spins and smashes him for another 11.

A series of inconsequential blows follow, before Kelvar finally lands a three point blow on Argentis! Yay!

Argentis: 5/69/40/133 (Longsword/Shield)

Kelvar: -20/27/30/26 (Longsword/Shield)

Finally. Same thing.

A perhaps surprised Argentis misses with a 27, and Kelvar scores a telling 118, which even reduces is a T critical... but of no consequence, other than the 12 stamin a loss.

Argentis misses again with a 13, Kelvar scores another hit for 5. An 087, another miss from Argentis, as is Kelvar's 22. 54 from Argentis bashes Kelvar for a 5 before taking Kelvar's return blow on his shield again, and cracking Kelvar over the head for a 13B, converted to a T.

"Strike to shoulder. Spun about and reel backwards ten feet. +12 hits; if no armour, stunned two rounds."

A little harder than you meant perhaps, Argentis, but no permanent damage. That blow finishes the fight; Kelvar is down.

Kelvar, a little dazed from the last hit, gets up, with much difficulty, and walks over to Argentis." I congratulate you on your victory. You're a very good swordsman, much better than me". Kelvar bows and stretches out his hand, awaiting a handshake.

Long story short... I'll throw out 100 xp to each of you on that one (which gets banked for now until the end of the story); Kelvar will need to take it easy for a little bit.

"Nah I made quite a few mistakes, still have to work on it, you hit me a few times and I can't allow that to happen. Good fight none the less"

"Yes, it was a good fight. I have not faced a opponent of your calibre in a long time".
