Ok, the Archery contest, unlike some of the other events wehich take place on the fields to the west of the city, take place inside the grounds of the palace.
We have a simple set-up. There are six qualifying rounds of six shooters each, with your own target at fifty paces. You get three shots; landing in the black (Bull) scores nothing, else you score a point for each inch you are away from thje Black. After three rounds, the one with the lowest score is the winner. The Black is about two inches across, so the person who got nearest the centre of it breaks any ties.
Six winners from that gives us a new rounf of six, firing in the same circumstances.
The three best from that go for the final round, for which the target is set back another fifty paces. The final round is a one shot deal. Closest to the middle of the target wins!
