Evange's Amalgam Tournament Announcement: Roster and Scheduling

whoever runs it can we please have a 4 person pick? street levelers aren't usually powerful so the fights would be kinda boring with just three. 4 leaves more oppurtunity for combos and attacks, strageties, and better fights. four would just be more interesting.

I think you have the ability to have a bigger avatar but it doesn't happen automatically, since I had a regular-sized one when I first became a Mod. I wanted it bigger though, so I fussed around with the avatar creator. I don't know what the limitations are for everyone else (never payed much attention to it before) but I can have up to 100x100 avatars...I'm guessing that's bigger than normal.

And as for the tourney...whatever Scoob says is fine by me. I just thought, since I was taking myself out of the tourney anyway, that I might make it easier for everyone by saying I could run it, so there wouldn't be a participant running the tourney. If someone else wants to it's cool...but the offer is there if ya'll want it.

Original was 64x64

i personally think 4 is too many.... with a possible 16 people in the tourny 4 characters each means we need to go through 64 characters.... everyone would end up with very similar amalgams.... and some would be struggling to come up with all 4 choices after the better known ones are taken

Couple things...

1. 4 x 16 = too many. I can think of a couple 3-person combos that could give some low-level heralds a good fight...3 is plenty.

2. If I run it, the first thing I'm doing is making a thread to discuss the rules. I won't just post them for everyone to follow...we'll be able to talk about it for a while first. Whoever is in charge will have the final say, but it will be a bit more democratic, so that we'll make a tourney everyone will be happy with.

3. I also think running two matches at the same time is a good idea. 16 people, even at one match a week, will take forever. A week is a good amount of time for a battle (give or take a day or two), but two a week will speed things up...the lack of progress almost killed this current one a few times.

well I think 4 people is fine, but 16 people is to many

SF has no idea what we're talking about.

I say that I'll start the next round tomorrow, and that the street level should be done with a RANDOM DRAFT!

Have everyone name street levels till we get like 48, then randomly distribute them so everyone has to use their debating skills, and do some research, to win.

nataku, your just always looking for the oppurtinuty to insult me, and that goes to show how petty and pathetic you are. and i don't agree with your idea

"nataku, your just always looking for the oppurtinuty to insult me, and that goes to show how petty and pathetic you are. and i don't agree with your idea"

I wasn't insulting you. You really have no idea what we're talking about. 16 people with 4 characters each? thats 64 characters.

Even with three its 48. Even if its 8 people with 4 characters each is 32. Half the number of players, and still a ridiculous amount of street level guys.

16 guys with 3 characters each is 48 which is also a ridiculous number.

I'd say our best bet is 8 teams of 3 players, each with 3 characters.

Glad you're starting the finals Nat.

As for the number for the next tourney, I agree that 16 is a lot, but at the same time making it for only 8 is kinda elitist...a lot of people that want to be in it would have to be turned away. In the spirit of including as many as possible I think 16 should be the number.

Also, random draft so that debating would be more prominent might be fun, but one or two people will get really lucky/unlucky with their randomly selected people, and I think it involves too much luck....there'd be quite a few unhappy people. 48 picks will mean that research will have to go into not just debating but drafting as well, since by the 3rd round quality street level-ers will be scarce. Although, the original proposition was "high-level street characters" where the 'high end' was somewhere right around Spider-Man level...so if that happens there'll be more available than if it was strictly "street level" (which is basically defined as 'fighting skills and little-to-no additional powers).

Again, this can all be ironed out in a bit, but it's good to be thinking about it.

you weren't really talking about anything, I voiced my own opinion as to how many characters we should be able to pick. i think 16 is to many people, but even by myself I can think of almost 64 characters without doing any research so I don't think it would really be a problem

Yeah, we could hit 64 if we needed to (as long as it was 'high-level street'😉

But we should take a vote (not now though) once we get a specific thread for this tourney on whether we want 2, 3, or 4 characters. In general that's probably the best way for most of the rules...see what the majority wants and then form the tourney to match those wishes.

I agree 100%

i'm not that bothered who runs the upcoming powerful street tourny..... but i wouldn't mind being in on the set-up of it (along with a couple of others) so that we can agree on rules/power limits and stuff

to be honest i've not been on as much recently as i used to be due to work..... so a Mod probably would be a better choice for the overall running of it

So, um, if anyone else wants to run the tourney that's cool. But right now I'm assuming I'll be in charge (since I won't be fighting in it and all). If anyone has a problem with that speak up, since I don't want to steal it away from anyone who's interested. But it'll probably make it easier so there isn't the awkward situation of having a participant also running it.

And like I said earlier, the plan is to have a thread to iron out the rules...nothing will be set in stone right away. So if you want your voice to be heard on the rules of the tourney, you'll get your chance (though to keep order I'd always have final say).

Right now I'm looking forward to scoob vs. lp, but that's the plan so far for the street tourney...

No friggin way to the random draft. No offense, but I do not trust any of you enough to not f*ck me over in that. If you want to post a list of super popular character and that way force people to pick their own from a more obscure list, fine.

EDIT: Actually, the power elvel was somewhat settled on to be Spidey foe level. So, say Venom or Puma... just not the big ones like Rhino.

I think Nat's the only one who likes that idea Khell. You needn't worry.

And I'm sure if you get there soon enough during the draft you'll get Majestic...so there's nothing to worry about 😛 😉

Hmm... been gone for a bit. I was hoping to get back in time to at least read the Scoob/Digi fight, but oh well. 🙁

Anyhoo, what if the street tournament had 12 people picking 4 guys each, and then having the finals as a 3 way match? It could bring in some interesting strategy that way, plus the risk of not actually having enough participants gets cut down. (I still love the bonus round of this tourney...)

Hermmm......

I like the random pick list.

There's ways we could do it where no one knows who's getting which character.
It'd be fun to have to think on your feet instead of picking a character you're way too familiar with.
That way, everybody learns something new.....jeez, khell really hates that idea.

Yeah, but how do you rendomize it? Do We give it to someone and just tell them tos tart pciking names at random? No. No way. Like I said, yu want people tor eally have to work to find new characters, make a big ass comprehensive list of characters we all think are too popular and exclude them from being picked.

I'm telling you right now, and Digi already said it: SOMEONE is going to get screwed, and someone else is going to get a friggin awesome set of picks and any sign of possible favoritism is going to throw a stink all over this thing.

i also like the random idea.... we could all put forward a bunch of characters until Digi ends up having a list of around 50-60 of them.... he could then randomly organise that list and number it... we all pick 3 numbers then he tells us who we've got

anyone like that idea?

🙂

Not really because I would like the ability to pick who I want plus if we do it that way there is a chance somebody gets characters that are to similar to really make an effective amalgam. Such you get Batman Nightwing and Deathstroke what effective person can you make from that can contend in an amalgam tournament.
