I think it will work great with shooters due to the fact that its probably possible to actually aim the controller as you aim the gun. I dont know about you, but it works out with the technology that sounds ****ing fantastic way to play FPS.

It would destroy the conventional controller (which is shitty to play FPS).

Fighting games, I can see unless they have a way to controller the character movements.
But really, C, when you have ever seen Nintendo focus on fighting games for their systems. You should know that you never buy a Nintendo if you love fighting games. So basically, its a moot point if the controller doesnt work with fighting games.

I said it was best for first party in one of these threads, I can't remember.

Nintendo is mostly first party anyway.

In terms of innovation, efficiency over "newness" with controllers.

Would you want some cool looking innovate car, that was too small, no.

But if anything it works a lot better for some genres and for the ones it doesnt theres always the option of using the classic controller interface anyway. That i.m.o is a cop out however. The developer sneed to just work around the interface.

I think that says it all about the next gen consoles

Yeah but the problem is developers WONT work around the interface, they are too lazy. Third party is 95% of the time wanting to mass produce the game on systems quickly. They wont have time to program stuff specifically for this controller, or actually i should say, they wouldnt bother with it. You see alot of third party games going to Xbox/PS2 now, it will probably be the same next round, unless they come out with a more "normal" controller.

I don't see how it will be so much more effective for other genres, in the pic you showed me, it looks cool.

If my friend had one, I'd play it, but I wouldn't keep one, I like the simplicity and shape of the snes and playstation controller.

What genres would it work better for?

The SNES controller is the prototype. Look at Sony's and Xbox. Take the SNES controller, add a couple analog sticks, another set of triggers, you got the Playstation controller. Add a couple small buttons, couple analog sticks, you got the Xbox controller.

It would work better for 1st person shooters without a doubt. Adventure/platform games and certainly real time strategy games. The only type where it wouldnt work as well as a standard controller interface are fighters. But thats just from what i can picture in my head. The developers might come up with a really cool way to make fighters work for it. Or they could just use the classic controller interface which slots over the bottom of the rev controller. So no probs anyway.

Go to the Gamecube section of ign.com it explains everything and how the controller will work in relation to the different genres. Its really not that hard to see.

its just an advanced light gun combined with segas "bass fishing" control

But the difference is that it works in 3d. Meaning, that it locates on the tv from left and right, and up and down. But also, how far you are away from the screen too.
Thats alot better than light gun games.
But really, to play an actual FPS like a light game gun is much better then traditional light gun games and shooters.
You move with the attachment and you aim with the controller.
What could be better.

I don't agree with first person one single bit to be honest.

The balance and everything seems awkward, aiming and sniping would take some getting used to.

Look how short that lead is between the controllers.... Your going to be waving that control like crazy... while the other hand is going to be near enough still....

Probably.

Doesn't mean that it's bad.

And really, your playing games, not swimming the hundred metres.
I don't know for sure, but I don't think you have to waive your arms like a moron. It also goes to the arguement that we're bloody lazy.

Like I said, I'd play it at a friends, I'll play anything.

But tourney play... 😮

Tourney play on a console?

I assume you mean online?
If not, do you go somewhere and play?

After reading that, Im really intrigued.
Especially with the football and shooters, that sounds awesome.

What I see the problems being is that all those skills you use since a kid will be worthless. It will be hard learning a new controller scheme, but after a bit of work, I feel that it will be really, really cool.
Its funny, but this controller, if done well and utilized, will make most of the games more realistic and real then the other two companies.

Its kind of ironic due to the fact that Nintendo has always been the company that produces the more not realistic games while XBOX and PS2 has taken great prides in being more realistic.

agreed. I think it will make playing games more interactive and fun. Im tired of reliving the same old experience every generation. Gaming hasnt really changed that much since the days of the N64 and the PS1.

PS3 and Xbox 360 offer the exact same experience we've had for the last two generations but with better graphics. That really doesnt interest me anymore. Thats old news, a dated approach.

It just needs to be done right.
Just like the DS needed to be done right.
