well i think losing beckham to someone like wright phillips is an acceptable risk, because he has something england don't have much of: pace from midfield. he can go past people (so can joe cole, but if cole goes past you, you can catch him), he can cross the ball decently. and his size makes him incredibly hard to mark.

True he still hasn't played enough games this season though. He should look for a move away from Chelsea IMO.. a loan move or something to get a few games under his belt.

exactly... but if wright phillips goes past you, he goes straight for goal... he's a dangerous player... remember the impact damien duff had in 2002? i think wright phillips could do the same. his lack of match practice can be a worry, but only a week or two ago i saw him start for chelsea and he was awesome...

Yeah if he goes past there's not much chance of catching him.. mind Bent has loads of speed if he goes. Owen ain't as quick as he used to be but still isn't exactly slow.. Rooney is quite fast.. I would take Wright Phillips to Germany and give just in case of injury to Beckham.. or even Lampard or Gerrard.. you could then push Beckham into the center and play Wright Phillips on the right.. Sven has LOADS of possibility's for this summer ✅.

could always draft Aaron Lennon up from the U21's... quicker than Phillips, and getting more regular first team football 😛
i'd personally play Carrick along side Lampard, means Lampard can push forward to where he's more dangerous without fear of leaving the midfield vacant as can happen when he plays with Gerrard.
Id play Cole on the left and Beckham on the right, because like ive said here before i think - both cole and beckham drift into central positions... so once you know they do that you can build in tactical covers, like Ashley Cole and Neville pushing forward on the attack, and Carrick covering the gaps on defence.
id play Rooney and Owen up front, possibly Defoe if Owens injury doesnt heal in time.
King and Terry in defence, with aforementioned Cole and Neville.

Good point about Carrick.. But I think Sven would get mobbed if he left Gerrard or Lampard out.

Italy have 3-4 of em haha... Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambrosini, off the top of my head... and thats just from AC Milan.
