What's Crouch going to do against Lucio, Roque Junior, Edmilson? Jump high? He has Dida to beat.

Lampard is better than Gerrard in the final third, Carrick is better then Gerrard when it comes to the holding role... playing Lampard with Carrick covers all the bases, whereas Gerrard, as great as he is, dont get me wrong... just imo, leaves gaps in the defensive sectors of midfield.

yes carrick can hold better then gerrard. but i dont thinks it worth the risk dropping him. he is world class who can influence the game. carrick will get his chance but i think its too early yet to bang him straight in the team

aside from Cole and Rooney, Carrick was the best player on the pitch against Uruguay... its just he doesnt do anything fantastic, he has the fundamentals down to a T, controls the pace of the game even on international games, completes long/short/diagonal/through/killer/simple/crosspitch passes 99% of the time... what more does he have to do to get into the team? he fixes a hole in Englands game, brilliantly... and yet people still say play Gerrard because he's 'better' - ignoring the fact that we have been playing Gerrard and Lampard for ages now, and it's been said time and time again that they dont work that well together
