haha, problem is we've been stealing all the players they want.
they made bids for Hossam Ghaly (strong midfielder), we got him, made loads of bids for Hatem Trabelsi (really decent defender) and now there are strong rumours he's joining spurs at the end of the season... Torres would be the icing on the cake 🙂
you don't need Torres, no, but he would be a much better strike partner for Henry than Adebayor, or if Henry does leave... a new prolific goal scorer to part-fill Henry's boots.
I think Tottenham needs a central defender as well... after Dawson and King we only have Davenport and Gardner, one is untried, and the other imo has tried and failed.

We bid for Jonathon Zebina but Capello realised injuries were slimming his squad so it fell through, Berbatov was another player we bidded for.
Torres has always been primary target for tottenham though, i think the admission of preparing to up a £20m bid for this summer (which they may have already done, hence the speculation about Arsenal and Spurs fighting for his signature atm)

Seriously though, we'll finish 4th this season, get to the semi-finals of the Champions League next year, win the Premiership, and then follow it up in 2 years time by being crowned Champions of Europe.

They had some great writers - Hugh McIlvanney was excellent, then there was another guy, but I can't remember his name...Brian De Granville, maybe? Anyway, they were good and had a comprehensive knowledge of the game. Sure, the tabloids are where it's at for tranfer gossip, but I also enjoy reading broader articles on football.

yea, but Defoe has been rumoured to want to leave, and Liverpool are rumoured to be interested, and if we're putting in >20m bids for Torres, it implies theyre true.
Tottenham need a 20+/season goal scorer, Defoe should be it, but he's off-form and not getting the chance he needs, Keane never will be a 20+/season striker, and i doubt Mido will either.
tbh though, we dont play a system that warrants need for a winger like Joaquin and anyway, Lennon is playing brilliantly, plus Routledge will be back at the end of the season... we'll have every position covered brilliantly, except centre back...

Brian Reade in The Mirror writes some nice stuff. Definitely tabloid-esque in scope though.

me neither... when you have such a good choice you should be choosing based on the opponents defensive strengths and weaknesses...
for instance, powerful aerial teams we'd be better off playing Defoe and Keane, playing through them rather than having Mido on and trying to battle it over them... and vice versa.
Defoe will always score goals, Keane will always produce those little moments of brilliance, and Mido is brilliant at holding up the play and also nets his fair share... i think the best policy here would be tactical rotation
Defoe won't go. Jol's selection policy is based on form; Defoe's hasn't been that good recently. Admittedly, he does like to play a big-man with a small-dude, but that's not his exclusive set-up.
I'd rather we purchase a winger/magician like Robben, Ribery, Juninho Pernambucano, Florent Malouda or Joaquin than a forward like Torres. Although, I wouldn't say no to Van Nistelrooy or Ronaldo. Actually, why don't we just buy a magician and a world-class forward? After all, we'll be in the Champions League next season...
