Yeah thats what I was thinking when I heard it.. He has been great all season and has one game where he doesn't influence the game as much and people are saying get rid of him.. crazy.

arsenal still have a game in hand. win that and they will be 3 points behind spurs, who have to play arsenal anyway

as for arsenal, losing one doesnt write off their chances of 4th spot.. still alot of games left.
itll all come down to the Arsenal vs Tottenham match tbh... thats 3 points neither team can drop, and a draw wouldnt work for us either.

I think Arsen Wenger picks his battles because I believe Arsenal could have won against Man U however he would be risking injury and fatigue to his star players which is why he didnt start some.

That's what I thought he did, but it seemed an odd choice. Surely he could have more afforded to rest people against Portsmouth.

Unless he thought he might lose to Man Utd at Old Trafford anyway, and he might as well take the loss and guarantee the win against Portsmouth and in the following matches.

Otherwise, I can't see the logic behind not starting Thierry.

Over the last 3 games (Aston Villa, Juventus and Man Utd) the only difference in the Arsenal team has been the rotation of Pires, Hleb and Ljungberg and - with the exception of the Man Utd game - the choice of partner with Henry. Pires, Hleb and Ljungberg are all pretty equal, so the only real difference has been Henry.

they had plenty of chances to win.

As amazing as Henry is, no single player makes a whole team great. Arsenal would never be the same without them, back after the comeback to form they've staged from being at one of their lowest points in years, I won't write them out of anything. Even if he does leave.

Being a Man Utd fan I think that Wenger made an excellent decision to rest Henry 😛

He didn't do anything when e came on anyway.. apart from his free kick which went well wide I can only remember him getting on the ball once. I was more surprised that Fabregas didn't make an impact in the game.

Sans Henry, Arsenal are half the team. No other top 6 team is so reliant on one player.

It's not really a slight against Arsenal, merely an observation of how incredibly influential Henry is. He's like Cantona/Keane was to Man Utd, Baggio to Juventus, Klinsmann to Spurs(!), etc.

Note: Those teams have been able to replace their former talismans, so if he does hip-hop to Barca, it ain't gonna be da end of nuthin. Wurd.

Henry, Lampard, Toure, Van Nistelrooy, Ferdinand.

id probably choose players that show that even under physical, fast paced circumstances skill and ability can still flourish... like say Henry, Lampard, Gerrard then defenders like John Terry and Jamie Carragher.

Henry is pretty self explanatory, even in the premiership (by far and away the most difficult league to play in) he shines, imagine what he could do in the non-contact world of La Liga.

Lampard and Gerrard are 2 midfielders who sum up whats needed to thrive in the premiership, both have determined personalities, strong, skillful strong defensively and offensively and have both mastered the fundamentals of the game, shame they dont work particularly well as a pair.

And Terry and Carragher are imo 2 of the better defenders in the world.
