Football (Soccer)

I can't actually rationalise why I support Arsenal. I don't get anything out of it, literally, I don't win anything. I suppose I just do.

There's an element of it being because my father is a supporter, but I did fall out of football for a while, after being an Arsenal supporter all my life. When I eventually got back into it, I wanted to see if it was still my father's influence, and it wasn't. Thus, I support Arsenal.

I suppose people just take a liking to a certain clubs for one reason or other. For some reason I like clubs who wear Red or Yellow & Black kits, and can´t stand teams who have Blue or stripey kits.

Heres a deep attempt to fathom why I support certain teams, I´m going to get some stick for this but sod it.

Liverpool:- Since I was a kid (6years), I got a brand new sports bag which I loved and yep it was from Liverpool, when big lads were looking for someone to beat up, they´d ask "what team do you support" and saying Liverpool had the highest percentage "survival rate"🙂. This led me to be interested and it went on from there🙂

Spurs:- Even though they have blue in their kit, for some reason I like them, probably due to the Gazza, Lineker era and the fact they have (had) lots of Brits in their team.

Arsenal:- love the way they play, was a big Ian Wright & Bergkamp fan and yep yellow black kits do it for me.

Borussia Dortmund:- same as above, although they´r playing normal lately.

Barcelona:- I love their team based playing style, especially how its taught very early in the youth.

Werder Bremen:- I love Kamikaze style football, green kits but seeing as I´m green/brown colour blind it doesn´t matter.

****ing Arsenal, with all their shit, non-existent depth.

While Man Utd and Liverpool were getting scrappy wins, Arsenal's team went and beat Sheffield Utd 6-0. Why? Why did Wenger send out a team that's the average age of 18, with a 21 year old as the "senior", against men?

Because Arsenal have a terrifyingly good youth system, perhaps?
I'm fairly sure it won't lead to them being nearly as dominant as they should be, of course, as Chelsea, Man Utd or even Man City now can just spend £30m per player and Arsenal will have to sell.
It's the truth, though rather depressing, and I'm no fan of Arsenal. Indeed, I'm praying for Sheik Mohammed to come and save LFC.

Well the key thing to remember is that no manager on Earth does so well with so little as Wenger.

When Fergie has to rebuild a team he's relied on for aeons, it will take them time to settle. By then, Wilshere and Coquelin will be the new Petit/Viera domination squad, Walcott will probably be playing at a level unheard of etc.

I think there are a lot of "glory boys" about, especially at the big clubs for obvious reasons. You can´t accuse them all of being glory boys though. Theres a lot of true fans who support their club since childhood and go through all the ups and downs and don´t "swap" clubs just because they are having a bad phase.

Whats interesting is why people support certain clubs, in most cases it´ll be a traditional thing from their area or copying what their parents supported after being taken to matches as a lad and all that.

But there´s other reasons too.

mines probably the worst one, its actually not even a real reason to like a club.

i never really watched soccer when i was young, i played but the only sports that were ever on tv in my house as a boy were hockey and basketball, maybe a little baseball. so naturally im not even going to know they play football professionally outside of the world cup.

fast forward to 5 or so years ago, pro evolution soccer comes along and needless to say i got addicted. the first good players that i signed to my master league were man united players, not that i knew it at the time. they were man red of course in those days.

later on when i started watching football the first really good game that i saw was a united game and all my players that id spent so much time developing in my little virtual world were kicking some teams ass and passing it around in real life. that was it for me; if i was going to support a team, it might as well be them. i found out way later that they were successful in the 90s and about the treble and stuff. i like their history though, id read about them in books not knowing who it really was so i suppose that all contributes to them being my team.

dont think that makes me a glory supporter. however, it is retarded.

the average age of your first team cant be that much older, 24 or 25.

man uniteds was 27 last season i think in the 24 man squad, chelseas was 28.

Who cares as long as you enjoy the sport.: 😱

Who cares, as long as you remember it's called FOOTBALL!?

Newcastle lost again.

Are they and Spurs having a race to come last or what?

somebody got paid on that hull v arsenal game, didnt see that coming.

Holy shit! I turned off at 1-0 Arsenhole and... I just looked at BBC Sport... and... shitting ****...
I really didn't see that coming...

Do you think I can still get good odds on Hull winning the title?

It's shit, we should have won and we should have beat Fulham.

These kind of games happen, though. We're still only two points behind the leaders and it's six games in. It's shit to know we could be four points ahead, but c'est la vie.

-AC

i dont know about you but those are the games that hurt me the most.

as a fan of the team, how do you feel about gallas?

thats the 3rd time this season alone ive seen someone score from a corner and its been his man.

Set pieces have always been Arsenal's weakness, I don't know why, especially when you consider that Gallas and Toure are two of the best defenders in the world.

-AC

gallas to me really isnt a 'great' defender. i think hes a good player but hes not a great defender.

it seems like to me that he doesnt have the right level of concentration to be put into that category of world class defenders. hes good from open play but if you cant mark your man from a corner you're not world class.

this is why arsenal wont win the title. too many silly results like this will cost them

But I bet you think Man Utd are still in with a shout.

-AC

you said yourself man utd did the same thing last year, they were actually worse off than they are now.

about arsenal though, honestly, sometimes someone scores a stunner from 30 yards and you lose and sometimes they hit the bar and you win. with arsenal lately, they've been getting the short end of the stick in that department.

if you look at some of the decisions and that little bit of luck thats gone against them in the past 6 or 7 months we could be talking about league champions right now. i wouldnt right them off unless they really **** it up.

I'm a Liverpool fan and hence, I can't really deny that anyone has a shot at the title...

What do people think?

Hulls first goal was an absolute scorcher, you have to admit.

Arsenal hat lots of chances though and they will be up there fighting for the title I´m sure, other titles candidates are dropping points as well.
