Wow that is sad, especially as some people (me) wear certain jerseys because they look good. And Brazil has one of the nicest being very colorful jerseys.

Jamaica was one of my favorites a shame they arn´t taking part this time, but might get a jersey anyway.🙂

Does nobody ever sit down and actually think about how ridiculous that is?

People get killed or abused for supporting a different football team. I mean, come on man.

Glad to say it isn´that bad everywhere, I live in Germany at the moment and there´s loads of different nationalities here all wearing their own kit which is quite a good laugh actually, especially when certian teams play each other.

I was even invited to a Turkish social club once to watch a qualifier England V Turkey, I was the only English person there and (even though the thought of being stabbed or beaten up had crossed my mind), I had a great night stayed till 3 am and didn´t buy a beer all night.

So it aint all bad.

Typical Arsenal youngsters, eh?

Always bottling the big games.

-AC

Arsenal were awesome tonight Nasri in particular was fantastic

"When they're at their best, they're the best team to watch in the country.", agree the pundits. Despite not being as recently successful as two other mentionable teams.

Not bad for a bunch of alleged failures, according to one person in this thread.

Let's see Man Utd or Chelsea score a better goal than Nasri's.

-AC

Haha. Bendtner misses chance after chance in the game at the weekend, but today, he puts away a hat trick. Good for him.

Because at 20 years old, people don't realise how good he is.

The man's 20 and he's a current international first teamer, more or less club first teamer, fairly regular scorer and a scorer of good goals at times. He has very good dribbling skill.

People forget this because he has games where he misses a lot of chances. It's not like he isn't getting in the right positions.

You can't hate everyone who isn't Henry by age 22.

-AC

Ya I agree. I always liked him, but I did start to come down hard on him. Now that he's found his feet, he's going to be a force. He'll be an amazing impact sub next year and if (God helps us no) RVP gets injured, he's a perfect deputy.

Considering I was having debates with you and have been posting in this thread for way longer than six months...you big joker.

Considering it was following debates with me that you realised you don't HAVE to be patriotic, I'm surprised you're asking me.

Fine, though. You're wrong, there, corrected. I suspect you're joking anyway.

[/b]

You clearly do know better, though. You proved so in your previous quote.

You are raised to believe lots of things that you should eventually grow out of.

My over-arching point is, and the reason Spooney is someone with the mentality we don't need or want in fans, is this:

For wearing a Brazil shirt I am (And have been) subjected to verbal abuse from some pedestrians. Some people have even sped up as I'm crossing the road while wearing it.

Is this warranted behaviour simply because I support a different 11 men? Football brings people together. It's not about getting anyone killed. Spooney's mentality breeds the mentality that I'm doing something wrong, and I'm not.

Don't imply things about me. I don't take football seriously enough to make gestures in the street or be rude in anyway.

Getting behind your country in sport isn't about the sport in my opinion. It's not worth getting angry at people over but when someone who has had a good upbringing in a country and then don't support them in a world cup I think it's sad... I don't mean they have to parade around with flags and shirts... but to support an opposing team? To cheer them against the country that has done so much for the person... it's just very sad.

The world cup is all about pride, pride in your country... for the players and for the fans.

You don't have to support your country but I'm pretty sure everyone who does would rather not listen to it. It's the definition of being a party pooper.

Don't get angry at people who call you names or kick the shit out of you if you do. It's your own fault. You asked for it. It's what you get for pissing someone off who cares about something.

Yes, it's not right, and not fair and none of that crap but you're well aware that it happens so shit or get off the pot.

I must add that I am NOT one of those who attacks people either verbally or physically... And me calling them dickheads on the page prior was something I'd never voice to anyone who wasn't a friend... (Or someone on the internet, where I couldn't give a shit about hurting feelings because it's well.... the internet... and I don't care.)

I wasn't brought up by the country, I wasn't brought up by John Terry and the England squad, so that's a stupid argument. The country isn't conscious, it doesn't "do" things for you. The government does more for you than the actual land...which is ultimately nothing.

I was brought up by my parents, brother and sister. I'll support them if they ever play.

Let's break this down; I deserve to be beat up, or shouldn't complain if I am, because I choose to prefer a different 11 sportsmen over the 11 from this country?

No, so what's the point? I'm bringing beatings or possible death upon myself because I wear a different shirt? You are a despicable human. Nobody is ASKING for it. You could argue that, like women who dress provocatively, it's tempting fate a bit, but so what? Pissing someone off who "cares about something"? If they care so much about 11 men playing a sport that they'd kill or seriously harm another person over it, how can you suggest that's care? That's psychopathy, not care. It's not passion, it's moronism.

You're NOT someone who attacks people verbally, besides calling them dickheads and saying it's their own fault if they get beat up for wearing a Brazil shirt?

No, you're a model of class and respect.

You're the kind of fan that the sport needs rid of.

I can get behind the "party-pooper" aspect of not supporting your own country but that doesn't justify physical or verbal abuse.

That being said, there's always going to be that lone fan at the social gathering rooting for the opposing team. Everyone just laughs at him.

That was me when Owen put England 1-0 up against Brazil.

Then Rivaldo and Ronaldinho happened and I was laughing. Of course, it was "serious" then, I wasn't "allowed" to laugh. I did, though.

Hilarious.

Did you laugh at Seamans daydreaming antics which led to the Ronaldinho goal?

And was the goal a fluke or did he go for it? F

rom what I´ve heard/read he used this technique, ie hitting the ball with the under sole of the foot so it dips when it slows down, on many occasions and he went for goal on this one.

It wasn't your typical free kick, so I've heard arguments about him not meaning it that had merit.

However, that would have had to be a pretty piss poor cross. It was more like a really sneaky free kick than a shit cross. It was one of those cases that only he knows, and I think people say he didn't mean it because he wasn't majorly known then.

Now, in 2010, I think we can all agree he had the ability to mean it.

-AC

You see a lot of that kind of freekick/cross nowadays....Hedge your bets between someone getting on the end of it or getting an awkward bouce into the far corner. In this case it was obviously straight in without the bounce though.

Still...You see plenty of goals scored from similar positions using these half shot half cross balls in.

It's just the UK media blows it all out of proportions when it's against England.

Agreed.

Watching commentators debate matters like this is amusing but understandable. Like A.C. said, it's a situation where only the player himself knows whether it was intentional or not.

I´m certain Ronaldinho did it purposely, Seaman although an excellent keeper, had problems with these sort of balls and maybe Ronaldinho knew about it. Nayim´s last minute goal in the Cup winners Cup final comes to mind as another example, was this a freak goal?

All I'm saying is I couldn't give a shit if you get beaten up for it. You'd have to be a moron to do it, it's what you deserve... You wouldn't wear a Celtic shirt while going to a Rangers pub anf if you did I wouldn't pity you, you'd be asking for it. The world isn't fair, there is no point complaining about this sort of stuff, you're a dickhead for pissing of native fans, don't shit on your own doorstep... You wouldn't shit on anyone else's.

I may be the kind of fan football could do without... But at least I'm not such a negative bastard 100% of the time. Football aside you're a prick, people tip-toe around you while you beat them down thread after thread. Do you ever sit down and ask yourself "What is wrong with me?". If you have any friends in the real world I pity them and I forecast you'll die alone.
