im a HUGE STAR WARS FAN and im going to see it this evening for the first time (i know but stupid school kept me from going the last 2 days and stupid parents are watching football today so it kept me from going earlier). but ive read every spoiler, seen every pic, every clip and every review. i dont think ill be let down. and i cant beleive i read everything that penis wrote. what a waste of seconds
And "real sw fans" have known about the lave for 20 yearswell SW fans are divided into two camps. Those who get all who are merchandise freaks into all the EU books and all then there are those who are canon only (Just consider the movies as the true SW). I am the latter and I am old enough to have seen and experienced the pure magic the premiere of ANH created back in 1977 . In my opinion none of the prequels are anything close to the the OT. The OT was pure magic the PT is not..but then again they are aimed at an age group far younger than me...........I just watched the PT films cause I really am a huge Star Wars fan. Phantom Menace was really really bad, Attack was a bit better but also bad, Revenge of the Siths well great effects but overall I gave the film a 3 out of 10. Things you were waiting for because of events in TPM and AOTC where left out or they were just added as "oh we almost forgott this" kind of scene.
I was a tad underwhelmed with this movie, but then again, I thought ep2 was the best flick of the entire 6. I think I was going into it waiting to be blown away, but nothing grabbed me and made me say 'Holy Crap'. What answers did the movie give that you didnt already know going in?
It was good. Just not great.

FROM A HARDCORE FAN...THIS SW MOVIE IS LOST BETWEEN TRYING TO PLEASE THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND SW FANS...BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WHICH MAKES SW COOL THAT'S IN THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!
LUCAS SPENT TOO MUCH TIME CREATING TONS OF STUFF FOR THIS FILM, BUT NOT ENOUGH TIME ON ONE SINGLE THING TO MAKE IT COOL!!!! THERE IS NOTHING HERE THAT DESERVES THE NAME STAR WARS, BECAUSE STAR WARS SHOULD = COOL STUFF!
EP II WAS GREAT! IT TOTALLY ABANDONED THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN TERMS OF CREATING A FOLLOWABLE PLOT, CHARACTERS TO CARE ABOUT, ETC...AND IT WAS A FLOP IN THAT SENSE...
BUT WE LOVE THE THING TO BITS!!! IT'S JUST COOL!!!
I WOULD CALL EP I 'NEAT' AT BEST...
BUT IT STILL HAD THAT SW MAGIC!!! AND IT WAS FULL OF WONDER AND ENERGY, AND IMAGINATIVE NEW CHARACTERS AND WORLDS THAT WE ACTUALLY GOT A CHANCE TO KNOW (UNLIKE IN THIS MOVIE)!!!
WE LOVE STAR WARS BECAUSE OF THE WORLD LUCAS HAS CREATED, BECAUSE IT'S FULL OF COOL STUFF! FOR IT'S BEAUTY, IT'S EXCITEMENT, IT'S IMAGINATION...NOT BECAUSE WE'RE GONNA GET A GREAT PLOT AND BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCES... BUT BECAUSE JEDIS WILL FLY THROUGH A PLANE OF GLASS TO GRAB ONTO AN AIRBORNE ASSASIN DROID! THAT'S COOL!
BUT...
Was there ONE really good COMPLETE action sequence in this whole movie ??? (ex. Geonosis arena scene, speeder chase through Coruscant in epII, podrace scene in epI).
Was there ANYTHING that was really cool that you couldn't wait to go back and see again the next day (ex. seismic charges, the royal starship blwoing up in epII)
Was there ONE really beautiful scene that was wonderous to look at (ex. the royal starship hovering over the clouds of couscant, making it's approach in ep II, the Gungan city in in ep I)?
This film was fairly well put together in terms of how Anakin slowly fell to the dark side, what Sidious' part was in all of it, and how exactly Anakin became Vader. BUT THAT STUFF HAD TO BE GOOD!
UNFORTUENATELY THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THAT WAS DONE WITH AS MUCH CARE AS THAT STUFF! THERE IS NO REAL CLIMAX IN THIS MOVIE BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENS, SO A GOOD FILMAKER WOULD MAKE SURE THE REST OF THE MOVIE HAS SOME REALLY KICK ASS STUFF IN IT...BUT IT DIDN'T!!!!!! JUST TALKING AND SHOOTING AND MORE TALKING AND MORE SHOOTING. THIS FILM MADE ME FEEL EMPTY!
This is why it sucked...
Point #1 - This film was badly directed.
ex) WHY WAS THE OBI-WAN/ GRIEVOUS CHASE SCENE JUST CUT IN HALF!!? IT TOTALLY LOST MOMENTUM RIGHT WHEN IT STARTED TO GET GOING?
WHY WASN'T THERE A GOOD BUILD UP TO THE KASHYYK BATTLE SCENE (ex. build up to hoth battle scene, or build up to the Geonosis arena scene...which is what increases the intensity). THERE WAS NO FORM TO IT, OR ANY OF THE BATTLE SCENES FOR THAT MATTER. WE JUST SEEMED TO BE THROWN INTO BATTLE SCENE AFTER BATTLE SCENE WITH NO EXPLANATION OR CLEARITY OF WHO'S INVLOVED, WHAT IS GOING ON, AND WHAT IS AT STAKE!!! (and remember, we are the minority of movie goers who already have a heads-up on all this stuff).
AND WHY WASN'T THERE ANYTHING EXCITING OR CLEVER IN ANY OF THE ACTION SCENES. IS BRUSHING SOME LEECHY DROIDS OFF ONE VEHICLE WITH THE WING OF ANOTHER VEHICLE ECXITING?????!!!!! THAT WAS ONE OF THE ONLY CAREFULLY THOUGHT OUT SCENES OF ACTION IN THE WHOLE FILM...LAME!
MOST EVERYTHING ELSE WAS JUST THINGS FLYING AROUND, SHOOTING EACHOTHER. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THESE VEHICLES ARE, WE DON'T GET A GOOD LOOK AT ANY OF THEM...FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, SOMETIMES I WAS LIKE "WHICH ONES ARE THE GOOD GUYS AND WHICH ONES ARE THE BAD GUYS!!!!!
HORRIBLE! INEXCUSABLE! UNBELIEVABLY BAD FILMAKING!
Point #2 - Wayyyyy too many different vehicles, species, locations for us to get any real appreciation of them.
ex).WHO ARE THE WOOKIES? I STILL DON'T KNOW. WHAT IS THEIR PLANET LIKE? HOW DO THEY LIVE? WHY EXACLTY HAVE THEY AGREED TO HELP OUT? (APART FROM THE YODA CONNECTION)
WE KNOW WAYYYY TOO MUCH ABOUT EWOKS BUT NOTHING ABOUT WOOKIES!!!!!WHAT DO THE WOOKIES FLY? WHAT WAS THAT?
Point #3 - Lucas, decide on who you're making this movie for. In most people's eyes, The Phantom Menace didn't deliver. It was a failure in the sense that it had to create a whole new genereation of Star Wars fans, and it didn't (Don't know if you're aware, but Star Wars was loved by EVERYBODY in the 80's). But it had to do the job of setting up the rest of the prequels so...
Attack of the Clones was great because it delivered for Star Wars fans...CORUSCANT SPEEDER CHASE, JANGO AND OBI WAN BATTLES ON KAMINO AND IN NEAR GEONOSIS, GEONOSIS ARENA SCENE, CLONTROOPERS VS. DROIDS, JEDIS VS DOOKU SCENES, AND LOTS OF OTHER COOL STUFF HEAR AND THEIR...REALLY WELL DONE AND JUST THE KIND OF COOL STUFF STAR WARS FANS WANNA SEE!!! I'VE SEEN THAT FILM A BILLION TIMES. IT'S BEAUTIFUL!
IS ALL WE GET THAT WE REALLY WANNA SEE IN EPIII THE FINAL LUGHTASABER DUEL? (WHICH LOOKED CHEAP AS HECK...WHAT'S WITH THAT LAVA?) THE SPACE BATTLE WAS KIND OF A LET DOWN. JUST THINK OF HOW WELL PLANNED OUT THE SPACE BATTLE IN 'A NEW HOPE' WAS. NOW WHAT WAS SO WELL PLANNED OUT ABOUT THIS?
So who was this film made for? Lucas wanted to please everyone by having a descent story, descent visuals, and a descent ending to the saga. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? DESCENT SUCKS!
STAR WARS FANS DON'T WANT DESCENT, THEY WANNA BE AMAZED!!!
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 6 FILMS, LUCAS MANAGED TO MAKE SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT IN THE LEAST BIT AMAZING!
HE HASN'T DONE A GOOD JOB OF PLEASING THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN THE PREQUELS SO FAR...SO WHY START NOW???
THERE WAS MORE DIOLOGUE AND STORY MAKING IN THIS FILM THAN THE LAST TWO FILMS COMBINED...AND FOR WHAT? WHO CARES??? THE GENERAL PUBLIC DOESN'T...THE FANS DON'T...YOU SCREWED UP GEORGE!!!
It just did what it had to do and no more. I NEVER thought I'd see a Star Wars movie that I couldn't wait for to end. I NEVER thought I'd see a Star Wars movie that I didn't wanna go see again the very next day. I NEVER thought I'd see a Star Wars movie where I just had yell 'BOO!' at, at the end.
GET SERIOUS EVERYONE! THIS MOVIE'S JUNK! THE WORST ONE BY FAR!
*Worst Scene - Darth Vader- "Nooooooooooo!"
Are you kidding me?
There's only one word to describe this guy..... ******* 😘
As a little tike I was there for the original ANH ....the 7 o clock was sold out I remember.....so the ONLY thing I agree on with the creator of this thread is bout the space battle....(thought bout hoth battle and kashyyk battle but significance in the two battles were different so I dismissed that idea of his)I did wish to see a better space battle in Lucas' final movie.....the rest rocked...but still I wasnt disappointed really.....just would have liked to see...i dont know Lucas cant make everyone 100% happy though Im sure he made many that happy.....Lucas did okay I think the movie rocks 🤘 Enough was left up to EU to have some fun and the rest we all got what we really needed to know and see sept for Gui-Gon gettin cut...lol
Lucas screwed up in the 70's
You have to go back to the beginning to see the mistake here....Lucas decided in the 70's to follow Luke's Journey not Annikan's....he started in the middle of the journey and made a series of fun movies.....he told us the ultimate ending in ROTJ....
Episodes 1-3 all fail because we know the story....4-6 have been on TV and all who walk in the movie know the future....prequals dont work well.
If Lucas followed order we would have witnessed the growth of both Skywalkers....IN ORDER!!!!! Lucas decided the big moments would be Luke discovering Vader is his father and Vader killing the emperor.....not Annikan turning dark.....
What is really lost is how Obi One changed the fate of the universe.....he trained both Annikan and Luke....with help from Yoda....AND LET ANNIKAN LIVE!!!!!!! If you follow the story Obi is not a supporting role.....
THE MAIN BODY OF STAR WARS 1-6 is ANNIKAN FULFILLING HIS DESTINY!!!!! HE BALANCES THE FORCE>>>>NOT LUKE!!!!
I found myself rewriting the script while I was watching the movie....
Lucas also fails by completely revamping special effects in 1-3....R2D2 now hops around jumping in and out of ships....used to be hauled out by cranes in 4-6.....ships in 4-6 are boxy....1-3 are sleak and stealthy....
No character development...no real one liners.....
It is obvious that Lucas is trying to compete with Lord of the Rings but wants to try and keep the Harry Potter kids happy too.
If you look at the overall Star Wars....1-6...it is a magnificant story....it is too bad that Lucas opened the book and started reading it to us in the middle.....
There's plenty of good reason he started with 4... the most important of which being that "episode 1," 2, and 3 were just that.... "episode 1" in 1977. When he wrote the story in the 70s it was a thorough telling of episodes 4-6, that was all he had come up with. After he did this he came up with a very, very vague idea of a backstory to these events, then developed that idea into an actual story in the 90s.
Star Wars has sort of abandoned the "Art" part of movies over the years. Between ESB, and now, Lucas'(or what's-his-face's) shots have been stationary with people talking around them. For the first timesince empire, I felt that I was watching a really well-filmed movie. In that way, I guess it was more for the general public, but it has many, many beautiful scenes using simplicity of shot ratehr than churning aour a huge budget. Lucas has reclaimed his former glory and built on his integrity as a filmmaker in this movie.
The fans have been the biggest hardasses about the saga, and just to stuff it to us, he filmed this oe beautifully, and stuck Jar Jar in twice. His presence reminds us that this is George's movie, not ours.
Im a true true star wars fan and I think that all the movies were good in their own way because each followed a different path on the same story line. Episode I was there to show us the glory days of the republic and the jedi, Episode II brought about the threat of the dark side growing more and more as well as presenting certain things that would gradually lead to Anakin turning to the dark side and Episode III differed so much because it was the darkest of all the PT it showed how he was tempted and how the fall of the jedi as well as the republic came about all in all the PT movies work together in a sence to make Episode III just that good. I agree with everyone else this movie was schweet!
Was there ANYTHING that was really cool that you couldn't wait to go back and see again the next day (ex. seismic charges, the royal starship blwoing up in epII)
The begining, and the flight [Anakin and Obi-Wan] into battle......
The freaking battle between Sidious, and Yoda?? Come on...Going back and forth from that battle and to Anakin and Obi-Wan...classic to me.
I wish Mance's battle with Siduous would have been a little more involved....Alot of the "more" powerful and skillful Jedi couldn't put up a fight, and I kind of wish Lucas would have at least had them put up more of a fight when Order 66 was passed.....
Overall I loved the movie, at the same time I feel there is alot cut, and hopefully the DVD will make up for it....To me, it's there with "Empire Strikes Back".
ANH was the first Movie I ever saw at 5, in theaters, and to see were it has come is amazing to me........I've seen it twice and will see it many, many more times! You can belive that! 🙂
