Muhammad Ali or Bruce Lee?

Bruce was a great fighter... are you so naive to believe he was some 2 bit fraud???

True he did go into movies... but he probably thought...
"I have a wife and a kid... I need to provide for them.. Oh there offering me large piles of money to fight in tape"

He regularly gave demonstrations of his skills.. Most Marshal artists thought he was better then them.... I would conclude that if hes thought to be as highly as he was, that he might actual be that good... Otherwise they wouldn't of been impressed.

I've yet to see some solid facts showing bruce was a hack... I've already shown you that bruces technique was designed to fight peeps like Ali, who while great was not unbeatable!

Whirly stop back patting people who agree with you... its boaring

its "boaring" is it 😂

yup...boaring...

So a lot of "Marshal" artists thought highly of Bruce Lee? Okay, he provided some interesting theory and all. That's great. But he doesn't have any record to prove he could actually implement that theory against skilled opponents.
Muhammad Ali, on the other hand, is a man that EVERY fighter thinks highly of. He is inarguably one of the greatest, if not the greatest, strikers ever. His record is indisputable.

So we have a much smaller fellow that MIGHT be a very good striker and a much larger fellow who is without a doubt one of the best strikers. Even if Lee was the best fighter in the world pound for pound, a man his size would be hard pressed to outpunch a good heavyweight, let alone a great one like Ali. The Pro-Lee argument here seems to depend on the mythical superiority of the Chinese martial arts. That myth is just that, a myth. Boxing is a very effective martial art: while it might lack any kicks that Lee's system has (which is why MMA guys tend to use Thai Boxing instead) it's not impossible to get inside a man's kicking range. In that place, where it's just fists flying, a small man like Lee wouldn't last a few minutes with Ali.

you keep on about his lack of strength... But I think anyone who has seen the 1 inch punch realises how powerful his blows were...(apart from whirly who thinks anyone can do it)
lee also did 2 finger push ups... which requires alot of physical strength todo...

Its true that we don't have much proof that he was as l33t as the films made out.. but the guy impressed alot of top marshel artists.. many of who were skilled fighters as it was...

I think all breaking techniques are relatively easy if you are shown how to do them.

I can't do two finger press ups as I weigh 18 stoneish, whereas Lee weighed about 10 stone I suspect this makes it easier.

Indeed - I can't help it - I just keep changing my names - you can't go back to one you've had so variations on a theme.

I say bruce lee , because i dont recall him beating people up in real life. Unlike with Ali, who i think fu** up his life and his health by beating people up and getting his ass whoop ever so often. Boxing is wack, moving on.......

I won't - but thanks I intend to have the record for most name changes on the forum.

think about it whirly.. it doesn't matter about weight but on your muscle to weight ratio... you could weigh 18 stone and be built like a brick... and do it..

What It does mean is he was hella strong for his weight...
I weigh about 11 stone and can't do it..

I bench 165 kilos. for reps

Do you know what your Body index number is?
(your size to weight ratio?) If so where do you fit in your age group?

can you honestly say that you are the fitest you could be?

Its skewed because I lift weights - Before my knee op two years ago when I was still playing rugby it was about 10% bodyfat ( a better way of doing it) with calipers, BMI is crap if you do weights at the momnet I am about a stone over what I am in the picture. Check out the strength thread for my thoughts on training

it may shock you.

I've been reading around... and come across an interesting book on the topic.. The guy preaches 3 exercises... Hindu squats Hindu pushups and back bridging..

He clames that there better then weight lifting as they increase stamina and the strenching is good for you... Long story short its better then doing weights..

Any thoughts?

Squats in any form will increase stamina if you are soing reps - it depends what your after. For a Rugby player which was my main sport I needed a lot of upper body strength, that programme would not give it, reistance training is the only way to produce this kind of power. I don't see these kind of training exercises allowing me to move men my size.
