Whilst that is certainly possible in an overall sense, the Cult is a bit simple-minded to be over doing it on the intrigue. They take what they need.

Here's something to think about. Even with the breadth of trade in this sector, the Cult would be extremely lucky to be able to steal exactly the parts they need in any reasonable time frame.

Xeth thinks the Techno Union is supplying the Cult of Charaeus with a droid army. A considerable shipment of droid army stuff has mysterious 'disappeared' in this sector.

But such a vast amount of equipment would need pretty big ships to move. The Alzarians have a big detector network pointing towards Charaean space in an attempt to try and spot any incoming pirate ships- they say it is not infallible, but it is helpful.

To get a huge cargo fleet over to Charaeus without the Alzarians noticing would be near impossible. Hence, the Union must instead be supplying the Cult inside Republican space, inside this sector where the equipment disappeared.

So as I say, this is all supporting evidence that a hidden base exists. Sadly it doesn't help you find it much.

Would the weak point of the evidence be that the Cultists don't need much of the crap that they steal, whereas they usually only take what they actually need?

That's supposition, not evidence. Try and focus on what evidence is.

It cannot possibly be a Republican planet. Cargo they are carrying IS a limiting factor- but until you suss out this probleb Xeth is working on, you don't have enough info to narrow the search enough.

Near Charaeus- almost none! It's very remote. But what you are looking for won't be near there.

You can start checking the ships that were attacked to further narrow down the possibilites, Densk, that's all useful. But the big thing is still what Xeth is working on- the Cult would never steal useless material, so what is going on there?
