I mean, he is always talking about how if we have the will power to stay the course, we can accomplish anything in the world.

So when people mention the original Ion they are actually mentioning Kyle??

I thought there was one before him, guess not.

Kyle as the 'original' Ion usually refers to the period of time before he recreated the Lantern Corps.

During this time, he, more or less, possessed the power of the entire Central Power Battery, Oa, the Guardians, and (through retcon) the Ion entity (space whale).

After he recreated the corps and Oa and what not, he was still referred to as Ion, still didn't need to wear a power ring, and was still more powerful than your standard Green Lantern, but he was most definitely NOT the Cosmic God he was beforehand.

Yes. It's a sensory system, not something tied to a particular reality.
