I don't remember the exact issue, but it was from the Torment arc of Superman/Batman which was issues 37-42.

edit: It's 38.

Thanks

Does anyone know any recommended hellblazer arcs?

Oh! Pick me! Pick me!

The first two collections of Delano's run ("Original Sins" and "The Devil You Know"😉 are top-notch, but after that, Delano's run really gets bogged down and grows a little boring as John Constantine joins a team of traveling hippies fighting fear throughout the countryside (not even kidding).

Literally every one of the Ennis written issues are good: from that, personal favorites include his first major storyline, Dangerous Habits, and Fear and Loathing (which happens to contain the hilarious "Constantine turns 40" issue. Finally from Ennis worth getting is what's probably the definitive Constantine story, Rake at the Gates of Hell, in which he challenges the three Lords of Hell after getting cancer. F*cking great story. In my opinion, the stuff Ennis did for Hellblazer ranks up with Preacher and Hitman as some of his best work- it's before he started relying on the same things over and over again, and for all its gross out humor and over the top violence, it has a ton of heart.

The Warren Ellis stuff is a little sub-par considering the other work the man has put out, but generally, a decent Ellis story is better than most people's work. "Haunted" is the one I'd go with from him.

The Azzarello run ranks second worst out of the Hellblazer compendium for me, but the "Hard Times," his first contribution, is well-worth reading. Basically, it's John Constantine being stuck in an American prison and being a total badass.

The entirety of the Carey run has been collected in TPBs, and if you're looking to get about forty issues of Hellblazer, it'll knock your socks off.

The Jenkins run hasn't been collected, which is a good thing, because it's probably the worst Hellblazer material out there and it's the only time I've ever regretted collecting it. Sad, 'cause I normally really enjoy Jenkins work. The Denise Mina run is alright, but nothing worth shelling out money for unless you just can't get enough John Constantine.

The current Andy Diggle arcs have been excellent, by the way, if you want to start buying the single issues.

So basically, the ones I'd recommend as a "Definitive Hellblazer Experience:" are the first Jamie Delano arc, "Fear and Loathing," "Rake at the Gates of Hell," "Red Schepulcre" "Black Flowers," "Starring at the Wall," and the current stuff from Andy Diggle.

How resistant are GLs against matter transmutation?

Being powerful transmuters themselves; very.

Can anyone possibly explain to me what the deal was with that one character, Bloodwynd? There was some big mystery about him, and who he really was or something.

It was during that terrible, dark period of the Justice League in between Giffen/Demattis and Morrison (aka the portion of League History no one reads).

I believe he turned out to be MartianManhunter.

What is the difference between Lantern Alan Scott and Sentinel Alan Scott?

Rott temporally took control of Martian Manhunter, posing as Bloodwynd who Rott also took control of by sucking him into the gem. Eventually their both freed and BW is currently still around

So the mystery was BW was Martian Manhunter temporally
