Regarding Green Lantern and his ring:
The ring is said to materialize anything which GL can imagine. Now, something simple (like a giant hand or wrench) I can understand: it's simple and straightforward, no mysterious internal workings. But at times I've seen GL materialize a complex scientific instrument. How does he do this? Wouldn't he have to understand how such a device works, how it's put together? I mean, a giant hand (with muscles and nerves) he can project cuz he has a hand and can project the feeling of it; but a complex device? Wouldn't it be more logical that he could only project such a device in form but not in substance (in which case it would be useless, so he really wouldn't bother in the first place)?

The ring works via willpower and imagination. perhaps those complex things just work like you imagine them to work as long as you've got enough willpower to ignore the things you don't understand.
I have seen comics where kyle is drafted to build something he doesn't understand and has someone explaining what to do to him.

but....
Spoiler:
that doesn't actually make any sense... Donald Blake wasn't a separate person from Thor, he was Thor with his memory removed (by Odin) until he had learned some mortal humility and rediscovered Mjolnir..... Blake and Thor were never separated (as far as I know) so he shouldn't be walking around at all seeing as Thor hasn't been able to transform into DB for years
