Great comic and satire of George Romero movies. Whats funny is how much the orignal issues have jumped in price from when they were first sold.
yeah, i really liked it, the only negative i saw about it was that it was a really simple plot line....... but it was a great read none the less

616 Annihilus looks (Frankly) friggen creepy. That just looks like some random alien off an episdoe of star-trek.

Heres my question .

How much is horse power converted into tonnes ? Because I was going to make a Astroboy versus Vision thread.

But Astroboys strength is only listed as 1 million horsepower ?

So here's an answer based on very very rusty and very simplistic physics. hp is a unit of the rate of power.

P = W/t
W = m.g.h
P.t = m.g.h

1 million hp = 745699872 Watts = 745699872 joules/s

Gravity has an acceleration of about 9.8m/s/s.
I don't know how tall Astroboy is but I'm going to assume with arms above his head the mass would be at about 1.5m.
That would make the mass about 56,000 tons.

This is probably all wrong though...

Not quite sure what you're asking. Tons as in how much he should weigh, or how much he should be able to lift? Probably the second one, because, I would imagine, strength is really what you're after.

First of all, Astro's strength is rated at 100,000 horsepower. And xmarksthespot has it right that 1 hp = 746 watts. But what does this mean in terms of "How many tons can he lift?"

Very broadly speaking, the average man can press about 100 lbs for a 1 rep max. Also, whereas 1 horsepower = 746w, 1 "manpower" = about 95-100 watts. This makes (roughly) 1 hp = about 8 mp...which kinda follows since the average horse weighs about 8 times what the average man weighs (8x the muscle mass: 150 lbs x 8 = 1200 lbs).

So: it takes about 1 manpower (100 watts) to lift 100 lbs.
1 horsepower = 700-800 lb lift
100,000 hp = 75,000,000 lb lift
Divide by 2000 (to convert to tons) = 37,500 tons.

These, too, are extremely rough estimates and subject to error, but basically, Astroboy can probably lift a moderate-sized warship / small apartment building.

🤣

Well, I went with small apartment building cuz I was once watching this science show about the "art" of building demolition, and the building about to be taken down was around ten stories. The demolition guys estimated its weight at about 40,000 tons.

The Empire State Building (102 stories) is estimated at about 365,000 tons.

Besides, isn't a "small skyscraper" something of an oxymoron? I mean, if it's small, then it's hardly "scraping the sky."

Ok then a Shortish Skyskraper, mind you this says a lot about the Things so called Class 90 strength. During the recent waid run he lifted a building that was atlest ten storyes high, with ease. Whoah, the Thing is altleast Class 40, 000. 🙂

This is why Your strength system is so mucb better than Marvel's...and I still say you should submit it to them for consideration. The worst they can tell ya is 'Nice work but no thanks.'

I've lost track of which Strength system im even using nowadys. But cheers any way. 😄

Does anyone have a link to a site that shows comic book sales from the gold and silver age? What I'd like to do is compare Aquaman's total comic sales to Namor's total comic sales. Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone have any pics of the 'Mecha Sentinels' ?

With all the Doomsday Vs threads, and all the creative ways that one might beat Doomsday (or so they think), other than BFR, I've yet to see a counter to this technique, IMO the ultimate blow from which DD simply could not recover (I'm not even sure the term "recover" applies). Anyone with time travel ability (eg, Silver Surfer, Thor) should be able to do this, as far as I can see...

Simply go back in time and prevent Doomsday from ever being created in the first place. He should be especially vulnerable to this kind of attack considering how involved his creation is. I don't think this would be considered BFR, as DD would have to exist in the first place for removal. Call this Origin Negation.

Why not?

(ps, I didn't think this one question deserved a whole thread unto itself)

Um, that requires some explanation. Allow me.

SS (eg) goes back in time but into a parallel history (because of the paradox barrier), negating the DD of that universe, but not the universe from which the time-traveling SS came.

That's cool...but is that Marvel's idea of time? If Marvel adheres to a single timeline concept, then Origin Negation remains valid.

nah, marvel came up with the diverging timeline from time travel thing. Well... them and Star Trek... And Back to the Future.

The cosequencies of altering history differ from story to story... if one did, in fact, alter their own history by going back and erasing Doomsday, then the ripple effect through time would be extremely significant... you just altered 200,000 years of history and pissed off a mad scientist on Krypton

😐

I'm just chock fulla questions these days...

It's generally accepted that Superman can't see through lead with his X-ray vision because lead is very dense.

Now, there are elements heavier than lead: tungsten and osmium come to mind. Shouldn't Superman Not be able to see through these as well?
