I would say Liberty DeVitto is up there.

Terry Bozzio.

Neil Peart or Steve Smith.

Tony Laureano TRASHES all of the drummers who's names I've recognized in this thread. Joey Jordison can load his triggers all he wants, and he's not going to touch Tony.

Then you obviously know shit all about drummers.

I would have to say either Dany Carey or Igor Cavalera. Both are quite versatile.

Stewart Copeland

or and because im drunk and ive forgotten - Hendrixs drummer is outstanding..particularly on Manic Depression

two of my favpurites in jazz drumming now are Tony Williams and Peter Erskine

John Bonham from Led Zepp. RIP.

I have the drum solo that proved it to me, joey jordison overal hands and feet is one of the fastest in the drumming world. Buddy Rich is awesome, and why hasn't Mike Portnoy been mentioned, he's a beast. If anyone's been to the subliminal verses tour you'd know what im talking about. I dont think joey gets enough credit, or for those that do like him, they dont know why hes good, if you listen closely, he is so fluent and mixes it up so well, he doesnt do the common double bass beat all the time. He is so quick in using everything he has on his huge 20 piece set. And pretty much he uses double bass all the time, sometimes its quiet in the songs but its there, for me i think he is easily the best double bass drummer. Well those 3 guys Neil Pert and the guy from the who, are pretty much the greats.
Has anyone mentioned Gene Hoglan???

Oops. 😮

Who is the guy who played with Bowie on all the Ziggy stuff, he's great.

Man, this thread is embarrissing to read! More embarrising than my spelling of 'embarrissing'!!!

People saying Dave Grohl, Tre Cool, Lars, Joey Jordison...... WTF?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Don't get me wrong, they're not bad drummers but open your eyes to the world! Even the people mentioning the outstanding drummers like Neil Peart... wake up to the world of music!

There is more music out in the world than on the shelves of commercial record stores! I knew what names that were gonna be mentioned before I even began reading this thread, it just shows how ignorant the world is.

People, go to local gigs. Go see bands on independent labels. There is so much talent out there that people miss out on.

For example Stu ex-Burning Skies/Eternal Lord is incredible. Anyone heard of him? Nope! I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I first saw Burning Skies in Cardiff Barfly.

Same goes for Owen ex-Shaped By Fate. Tomas Haake saw him play last year and instantly named him in the top 5 drummers in the world.

You should be ashamed that you spelled "Embarassing" wrong, then spelled the incorrect one differently.

What exactly would the point of the thread be, then? I think it goes without saying that the drummers should have some degree of fame under their belt - otherwise it would just be a thread of names that no one has ever heard of, and most likely never will.

Most people here probably know of bands and drummers that you've never heard of as well, it really isn't an exclusive accomplishment.

I dunno if this man is the "best drummer in the world", but he sure does amaze me... Neil Peart of Rush.

I didn't say it was. But all I see is a thread with the same names when I know of better drummers. Surely if someone were to suggest a drummer, someone else would check them out instead of being close minded and typing something silly like 'Tre Cool' a thousand times.

Keith Moon.
