who does every 1 think is the best drummer in the world is??? slipknot is aparently the fastest and buddy rich is classed as the best but so is joey jordisson

...couldn't possibly tell you who the best one is TODAY. But for sure, it is Neil Peart of Rush from a history/ever standpoint.

The drummer and percussionist from 3 were pretty up there when i saw them, amazing solo from the pair. great skills

Eric Kretz (STP)

Joey Jordison is nowhere close to being the best drummer ever. You liking him a lot won't make it so.

😆

Although (usually) brutally harsh sometimes, I sometimes love your responses, AC. 😉

is this thread a joke?? dave grohl?? joey jordison??

the best non-jazz drummer right now is brann dailor from mastodon - close second and 3rd would be drummers from technical death metal bands (martyr, quo vadis, gorguts, cynic)

the best non-jazz drummers off all time are dailor, pete sandoval from morbid angel, richard kristy and gene hoglan from death,

cant' believe all the ignorant opinions on this board... jeez people listen to some death metal some times

oh yea I can't believe I forgot about inferno

behemoth's drummer is one of the fastest and most technical guys in the world - look up behemoth on youtube

Neil Peart is the guy! ,
if we are talking pure skill it's Vinnie Colaiuta

Dave Grohl, Joey Jordison, Tre, and all them other losers shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as some of these guys...Man I wanna smack everyone who mentioned one of these guys as a candidate for greatest Drummer....

Having said that, the thread is called 'best' drummer, which is at best a nebulous term, and isn't solely determined based upon technical skill- if it were, the two you named would certainly be around the finish line.

Maybe I'm going "old school" here, but I think that there are a few that spring to mind - most notably - Neal Peart (Rush). Standing in line with him would be my personal favorite Lars Ulrich (Metallica). He sort of transitioned the drumming comunity into an arena for double-bass drums. I also like Tommy Lee (Motley Crue, Supernova). I say Tommy Lee because of the energy that he exudes in his shows with the drumsets flipping over and his "balls-to-the-wall" approach.

Lars and Tommy Lee wish they could lick Neil Peart's feet when it comes to drumming talent.

Not being a drummer can I ask what makes a person the "greatest" drummer? Is it how fast they can play? Surely John Bonham or Keith Moon couldn't play as fast as Joey from Slipknot? What makes a great drummer??????

Youre all wrong
ITS STEWART COPELAND FROM THE POLICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fail to see how speed could possibly be proportional to greatness.

It's essentially open to interpretation. 'Best' is not subjective, as most people like to state, but in fact an indefined objective standard.

I agree with you Vic...I think it is an objective standard. The problem is, no one can be objective enough to create a standard. I like to think that I could be objective; however, I already played my card by stating that I think Neal Peart is the best. Oh well...

The coincidence there is that he could very well be the best, so you're not necessarily in the wrong.

It's people who say John Bonham because he's John Bonham, that you have to watch out for.

Lars Ulrich is good, Tommy Lee is overrated. Matt Kelly is really good, and he is really underrated.
