Your Opinion of Movie Downloading?

Hey, I've got a "challenge" for you, Krunk man. Wait until this pesky user named Cinemaddiction comes stumbling through this forum. Then, tell him your opinion about pirating movies.

Be sure to take it easy on him - he won't put up much of a fight.

It's not right! Who are 'they' to tell us who we can and can not share our things with?

I think their focus is newer films. I mean, making VHS copies of movies you rented from the video store is old hat, nah'mean? I don't understand how DVD-R machines are legal. They're only used for one thing, and one thing only.

I occasionally donate myself to charity. As for it being 'immoral', I guess you should put on your Jesus-sandals and go find Moses...

I think "immoral" was a little too strong. I would have a horrible guilty conscience, downloading movies.

DVD-r's will be becasue they store tons of information - Games will most likely be totally converted to DVD's within the next decade... its just a fairly untpaped resource and the only tap involved with it is Movie copying.

It just sucks that you can go buy a DVD recorder, rent a movie, like it, and essentially copy it for $1, and own it forever. Some of you may not agree.

I have one, but have never copied a copyrighted movie. I tried it once, to see what it would do, and it wouldn't even allow it (Sony).

I use the hell out of it, though. I tape NFL games, specials, and stuff on TV so I never have to use VHS again.

Also, I transfer my camcorder footage to DVD. The editing and title options are excellent.

Ok, four or five things...only..

Actually, right now I'm in the process of doing the deed!

I previewed it first and the quality isn't 100%, so I will buy the DVD when it's available anyway...Even if it was perfect in quality, there's just something nice about looking at a big collection of movies all in their proper cases...Damn, consumerism! It's got me! It's got me!

I can see why people think it's wrong. I'm not saying I don't think it's wrong, but I really don't care. I download movies/tv series all the time, hell I'm doing it right now. I bought one of those dvd players for 45$ that will play DIVX Playback, and it's a beautiful thing. I burn movies on regular data discs pop it into my dvd player.

i think first off hollywood is maiing too much money.10 bucks for a movie is just rediculous by the time my wife and i go to a movie its an easy 50 spot and just not worth it..as far as dl'ing goes..whatever if you want to watch a crappy looking movie its your deal..i have dl'd 2 movies in 5 years its a weaste of time..and puter space..

I agree, the price of movie tickets is terrible...

i don't think the whole deal is just about the ripping off of the movie industry from the box office, i mean DVD piracy as well. i have many friends who are able to get me all the burnt dvds i want for sweet f*ck all, and from time to time i've watched them with them. i've even got the odd burnt dvd myself. but if i like a movie enough to get a burnt copy, its because i like it enough to get it, which means i like it enough to buy it when i get a chance.
thanks to the rather "small town" nature of the area i live in, buying dvds at an affordable price isn't always possible, so i make do till i've saved and take a trip into the city and buy them then. i think building a 500 strong DVD collection that is all burnt is like saying "i have a Ferrari...you know, a kit one that is made of non Ferrari parts, but it's a Ferrari"

I totally agree with that. It's pretty safe to say that everyone around here loves movies as much, or possibly more, than I do. So I don't get the justification for ripping off these movies. Okay, if the movie sucks, then I could care less, but who is really going to go to the trouble of burning a DVD, or even having it in their collection, if they don't like it? I wouldn't do that. If I really enjoy a movie, I want to support it, and since buying memorabilia isn't my thing (anymore...), purchasing the DVD is the way.
