Whoever said personal freedom is worth dying for: Hahahaha.
in a way thats right and in a way its wrong
on a personal level, soldiers(at least the many who i speak to), dont fight for higher purposes such as country or god or freedom or blah blah whatever...they fight for their mates who are fighting with them
but on a larger scale then many fights are for freedom and people are willing to die for it...countless of millions of people gave their lives for that very purpose in many different wars throughout history
We don't know if we would have been targetted. Things didn't play out that way, so we'll never know what way things would have turned out. We were a likely target, but we kinda pushed to the front of the queue by going to war.
so basically you'd like to think that it's someone elses problem?
i think thats a dangerous way for nations to think...god forbid we would act the same if the likes of al qaeda were the army of a powerful nation trying to impose extremism on others
again i will go back to the point that al qaeda are not merely reacting to our part in the wars in iraq and afghanistan...they would kill you regardless...hence their attacks initially in Somalia against americans...they are also responsible for the bombing assasinations of politicians in Algeria..the torture and assasination Anwar Sadat...the Egyptian president...then attacks on the USS Cole as well as attacks in Bali, Turkey
their ideology is to drive all western interests from all Arab and middle eastern countries as well as to unite all Arabs, by force, under a single nation who follow the caliphs..see below
http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/politics/firstfourcaliphs.html
so no...staying out of it wont make us immune from their sick and twisted form of islam...their hate and their determination to kill...they believe that merely because you vote then you deserve to die
so my question is..if not with force...how do you fight against it?
a couple of pages ago i mentioned preventing the other reasons that intice hatred of the west...ending poverty
