When does a thread become racist

I've seen somethings in threads recently which make me uncomfortable! I have Romany traveller and Irish tinker blood in me, I am part traveller. Is it me because of my ethnicity or are some statements about groups like Muslims racist?

I think it's the fear of Muslims because of 9-11.

And to be fair, while not EVERY Muslim is a hate monger, there are probably some who support the silent majority or minority who believe things like 9-11 and the London railway stuff are right and just. And since Islamic public condemnation of these acts has been very little and nothing more than verbal condemnation, it perhaps makes people believe that they're "all the same" just as, to be fair, some Muslimpeople think about America and the pro-Western world. As far as racism and bigotry, people need to be reminded that it IS a 2 way street.

I live in London and was in Central London today. I do not blame all Muslims for the behaviour of a few extremists.

Exactly, and so you shouldn't.

These are separatist idiots who have no regard for human life and do not speak for the whole of humanity. No self respecting country should allow terrorists to dictate their agenda. The U.S. the UK, or anyone. These are spoiled kids with very dangerous temper tantrums and the tools to back them up. And it IS scary..

However, in terms of racism, there are also reverse discrimination incidents where people use their race to say and do things that ordinary white people would go to jail for. This is because we have no prosecutable definition of reverse discrimination and to be fair, this should be punishable as well as ordinary racism because to be honest, there are people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who play the race deck like it was a violin because they know the system's hands are tied w\regard to reverse behavior.

The day both racism and reverse racism become equally punishable is the day we'll be better off, but as long as we fear repercussion from making hate crimes an equally punishable 2 way street, nothing really gets done.

I think the advantages the majority have over the minority make it a very unlevel playing field. The boys in Leeds were not "rich", they were well educated and they had been brainwashed, nothing more, nothing less. Most muslems in the UK are sickened by it.

What does 'treveller' mean?

And I don't see your point, to be honest.

Traveller = Gypsy, ethnic group persecuted since leaving india 1000 years ago. Most recent persecution in the holocaust where we were herded into gas chambers🙁

The point is some posting is intolerant and some ideas expressed have been full of hate towards specific ethnic groups and individuals of those groups.

it wasn't at all

the question is simply whether or not you see racism on these forums.

i certainly see gross generalisation of muslims. amazingly only that though. strange how its become so socially acceptable to hate muslims, while at the same time most of us claim to live in an enlightened society.

I agree totally, I have also seen racist terminology thrown around, stuff if you said in the street or at work you could end up in court for, at least in the UK, that or missing teeth.

Muslims is not a race of people. Muslims are people who follow religion, so no its not racism.
Discrimination or bigotry, but not racism.

(not that there is such thing as ''race'' within humans)

Its a religion and an ethnicity, various groups in different nations exist but under UK law they are a minority group and protected by race relations law! But they see themselves as "The people of Islam".

Lil has this tiresome theory trying to re-define the meaning of words to try and fit her own view on things. It isn't true and it doesn't work.

racist

adj 1: based on racial intolerance; "racist remarks" 2: discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion
