( ps sorry i know that this is of topic, and oh yeah obi wins)
This seems to be a very heated topic, but here is my opinion of Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine with a brief justification.
Darth Maul defeats Obi-Wan Kenobi
Darth Maul with a double bladed lightsaber and twenty years of almost exclusive lightsaber training, against a young inexperienced jedi padawan without his master's death to motivate him.
This could be an interesting scenario. Let's follow this for a bit. First, when could Maul have attacked Obi-Wan? Well, when Qui-Gon was in Mos Espa with the Queen, but Obi-Wan was with the ship with Captain Panaka and the "Queen," Darth Maul could have attacked. If he believed the Queen was with the ship, as he should have, it would have come down to Obi-Wan being the only person there who could have protected her.
So Maul kills him, and for Obi's credit, we'll say he still manages to cut the double in half, and then kills the decoy Queen.
Qui, Ani, Padme, Artoo and Jar-Jar get back to the ship. Qui finds Obi dead, and confronts Darth Maul, who is meditating in the Queen's throne room on the ship.
Qui-Gon, being the rebellious Jedi Master that he is, has gotten angry at his padawan's death, and being stronger in the Force than Maul, easily defeats him.
So now when Ani is tested but still refused, Qui-Gon can take him as his padawan.
I wonder how that would affect episode III, or if it would affect episode III (I don't think it would affect episode II at all, just sub Qui for all Obi's scenes). Maybe with Qui-Gon as his master, Anakin would have succeeded in being more detached. But maybe not.
