Renji trained for 10 years, most likely, because he didn't use the "special" cheater way. He had to work on materializing his Zanpakuto and he had already done so before Ichigo started his thing.

So Renji was working on activating his Bankai more than...a few seconds? We don't know how far along he was in getting his bankai or if it was just simply maintaining it. However, we do know that it was deemed incomplete and that more training was required as stated by Kuchiki.

We also get further confirmation that he is almost to the point of bankai release:

So he was working on it quite a bit before the start of the series...no cheater way to get it faster.

Addtionally, he may not have been the first lieutenant to achieve bankai of the current generation: Ikakku was his superior and helped train Renji so it may be more likely that Ikakku has achieved his for quite some time. Lastly, we know from his exchange with Renji (when Renji was in the 11th division) that he had a Bankai for quite some time...years maybe. This was before Renji got his.

Iba may have also achieved his bankai. He's Ikkaku's equal in most ways and may even be his Kido superior.

huh, never did like that video game kid. has anyone else noticed how ridiculously easy it is for the captains to take down the Xcution memebers despite their power up? I mean, at the very least, the guys could nick the captains.

Tsukishima will obviously lose. But considering his ability, I can't mind if it ends early. Though if he does land a hit but can't manage to penetrate his skin for some stupid reason, like what happened with Aizen.

Well Ichigo had a hard time hurting Kenpachi with basic strikes when they first fought. Though I'm not sure if Byakuya would use something of the sort.

Ikkaku isn't a Lieutenant. He's not Lieutenant level either if you reply with "But I was referring to power level"; he's above it.

Perhaps. Nah. He lets Renji and Ichigo flirt with her. And for me, it's quantity over quality. We see the 11 Shinigami all the time. The 3rd seats from division 13 are barely there.

At least the guys in 3rd seat in the Thirteenth Division don't do a lucky dance:

They're barely there nowadays, but they still trump all other Bleach characters combined, when it comes to being annoying b****es.

Holy shit I don't think the Fullbringers can suck any worse.

It's almost painful that the kid with the friggin' knuckle dusters is doing better than all of the ones that have actually started fighting. Despite being apparently so physically weak (By Bleach standards) that he can't break a wooden sword.

Damnit, we need to see this guy again.

Who sucks more? The Fullbringers, or the Fishmen over in One Piece?

Hody at least was able to weather Luffy's attacks without being too injured.

And at least the Fishman aren't really being one-shot.

The Fullbringers so far suck more.

Giriko in particular disappointed me. Kubo is going to a very special place in Hell for the crime of making a character who looks so much like Fuhrer King Bradley suck so badly.

Hitsugaya's the best character in the manga for sure. This chapter is just more proof.
