Looking back on this last arch.
When it was revealed that Ichigo was pretty much screwed when he got back to his house and his sisters were "stabbed", I would have been like...'Ahhhhh **** it. Alright, Ginji and Tsukishima. What do? Let's talk. HEY! CLOCK MAN! Poor us some drinks while we talk about this like adults instead of angsty teens! Okay, Orihime, cowck, nao. Proceed, Ol' Giiji buddy. Tsukishima, let me know what your terms are and I'll consider being responsible."
Bam, arch is done.
Rukia was a prick in that scene. Total mood whiplash. Thats what killed the arc for me. Ichigo gets absolutely beaten, realises that he has no-one else to blame for this but himself and breaks. And then Rukia calls him a sissy and gives him back his powers and he's back to his usual overconfidance as if nothing ever happened. No lesson learned. Just awful.

Not every arc really needs a lesson, though I guess the lesson she was trying to convey was "He can change your past but only YOU decide your future." Or something like that.
Mind you, Rukia's treatment was really what Ichigo needed.

Haha, no. The arc already had a lesson. Ichigo had pursued getting his powers back without regard for caution and he majorly ****ed up and got everyone into a position where he had to be bailed out. There was no way else anyone would have gotten out of that and it was all his fault because he couldn't stand not being as powerful as his friends and the fact that he wasn't mister badass anymore. This page is so powerful to me because its Ichigo realising that he seriously ****ed up and worse that he seriously failed in protecting his friends and that he has no-one to blame but himself.
And then Ichigo is given his powers back, completely slapping that point right in the ****ing face. And whats more he does absolutely nothing to earn it back. He hasn't evolved as a character at all. As soon as he gets his powers back he acts like Ginjo doesn't even register as a threat. Ichigo has learnt nothing. He's still an immature child who needs to be able to beat everyone up to feel good about himself. No. Lesson. Learnt.
Thats why I don't like this arc anymore.

I sort of agree. Ichigo did not need to learn a lesson, however...which was the problem. He wanted his powers back not to be more powerful than everyone...but to protect those he loved around him. When it was definitely true that he would not be able to protect jack diddly squat with no hope or shred of hope, that's when he lost it.
But we always knew SS would come to save him...or Urahara. 🙂
So there was nothing to fear the entire time for the reader and Ichigo didn't need the lesson to begin with. The lesson itself is what is out of place, not the fact that Ichigo did a 180 in a panel.

Why did Ichigo deserve his powers in the first place? He didn't really need them to learn a lesson, or anything like that. Hell, when he got them again, he never needed to learn much of a lesson either(combat training aside). His powers aren't inherently connected to any lesson he ever learned before, so why it bothers you know confuses me.
Was he reckless? Yes. But then again...the enemy wasn't exactly playing fair. Posters on here were actually thinking they were legitimate good guys. It's not as though Ichigo rushed into help someone who was clearly evil. The fullbringers, when we're first introduced to them, seem like good guys. Did he make a mistake in trusting them? Sure. Did he suffer for it? More than we've ever seen in the manga.
But...Ichigo in all honesty doesn't deserve it. He has saved the entire Soul Society and his home, at the cost of damn near everything he had. It's the fact that it is Soul Society, the very people he saved, that gave him back his powers is the reason the scene worked. Ichigo has done phenomenal good and in all honesty deserved his powers. He did earn them.
In these two weeks Kubo has been elaborating on the story and hinted on what's going to come up in the upcoming arc, in interviews.
