Since Mask De Masculine has not use his Vollstandig, I'm not concerned that he preformed badly in this chapter. He'll power up, hopefully beat up on Renji a bit, and then fall to his Bankai. Not that this will be the most amazing way to go out but I'm satisfied with why Mask has done since 5 heroes, quite a few of whom I care nothing for, got rocked.
That said Renji is getting into a bad habit of no selling his opponents. When Renji is on the winning end of fights it always ensures the fight will be boring. He curbed Jackie so bad he didn't even really need his sword. Would like for Mask to get more effort out of him.
Of course Renji could just beat him without using Bankai. It would be stupid and horrible but I wouldn't put it past Kubo.
Renji also got an upgrade during the skip.

To be fair, 'only' a captain and a vice captain ^^ And the captain was smart enough to use bankai, no less.
And Rukia should be powered up herself.
true. still, the ease with which Renji beat him down in this chapter is noteworthy since he wasn't trying. so I imagine that if he were to use his bankai and actually put forth effort, he might even do well against even tougher guys. and of course Rukia would have powered up too, but most likely not to the same extent as Renji.
I hate it when Bleach does this.

Can't you tell how thrilling this battle is by my utterly emotionless glare and the way that I literally look like I do not give a shit about the fight? God... so badass.

Ah yes, dunno why my memory was horrible earlier. Kensei, Rose, Hisagi, Ikkaku, Yumichika... it's kinda sad none of them lasted long enough to figure out and then take out the little guy.
Though honestly, considering the Vizard's poor performance in previous battles, I wonder if these two vizard captains are simply the weakest of all the captains.

If true that would be unbelievably pathetic. But considering Shinji was also wtf-pwned after stupidly telling Bambietta how his powers work I guess its a group trait to suck in battle. Speaking of crappy performances, though I doubt it would make much of a difference, where the heck is Mashiro in all of this?

lolwat. Did you read the chapter? Shinji's release makes it impossible to actually understand what he's saying. Secondly you'd be a moron to have an AoE attack and not use given the obvious circumstances that you can't aim.

The point was Shinji had the perfect opportunity to go for the attack but decided to tell Bambietta how his powers worked. Even if she didn't understand him, it would've take a bit longer to figure out how to counter the illusion had he not said anything. It was also more or less demonstrating how the vizards aren't impressive at all in fights.
