She also did not correct Ichigo and, for years, Bleach fans have just assumed Kenpachi's sword was just like Ichigo's...just like it says in the manga. 🙂

Personally, I think Kubo just wrote himself into a plot hole. 😄

By the way, here is where Kenpachi already states his sword is released:

except, it doesn't say that in the manga. Ichigo asked a question, a question that went unanswered because it was not pertinent at the time. At no point was there a declarative statement made regarding Kenny's sword. 🙂

Other than by Kenny himself, you mean.

when?

"This... Is the true form of my Soul Cutter."

Look at dadudemon's scan.

oh, missed that one. well phuck you in the ass for not just posting that scan in from the start. sneer

that doesn't make sense tho. If Kenny's sword was always released, it wouldn't look like a normal katana. Kenny was wrong about his own sword.

Kubo is terrible.

New Shikai actually gets a thumbs up for me. Giant ornate axe fits Kenpachi and could be interesting to see in battle.

Chapter as a whole gets a thumbs down though. Pretty dull.

It might (MIGHT) not be a plot hole.

Assuming his shikai's power is the ability to assume the shape of any martial weapon, which would fit Kenpachi's image as the undisputed king of melee.

But I doubt that's it.

i hope it's a plothole, otherwise this makes Kenny look really dumb for not realizing that he can't release his sword (even a bastardized version like Ichigo or Yumichika) w/o knowing it's name.

oh my

Ah, classic Bleach. I miss thee so.

You and dadudemon are completely mis-interpereting that scan.

Kenpachi only said that his sword was in its true form. He clearly knew that he had to know it's name, because he asked it after that fight. It's pretty obvious that there was a kind of anger he felt towards it because he didn't know it. It's just his character. He's never been too keen on fancy sword techniques, and basically focuses on standard brawling and sword-fighting.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I actually really like Kenny's new shikai.

I also have a theory to what it does.

I personally think that it absorbed Gremmy's meteor, because he said swallow to awaken it. What I think is that he can absorb reishi with the axe, and make it burn the fur on the handle or something, meaning that the more reishi or energy absorbed, the more it burns, and when the fur burns completely, it activates it's actual ability. Since it's name is Nozorashi, meaning literally "An open field", and just because of Kenny's fighting style, I think that it will do something like send him and Gremmy to a different world or something, and negate both of their special abilities, like kido, reality distortion, etc., and make them both have a one on one sword fight to the death. That would be awesome. Like even bankai for other soul reapers or their shikai's don't work, and they get a sword if they don't have one, or something. It really fits Kenny's character, and judging from his swords name and release, I think it's very plausible.

If we were truly misinterpreting it, we would have the company of thousands of other Bleach fans.

Even the Wiki, which is guarded heavily by Bleach Geeks, goes into detail after detail about Kenpachi already have an unsealed Zanpakuto (shikai).

If it were sealed, it would look like the regular sword...just like everyone else. It doesn't, it's not sealed.

Name one sealed zanpakuto that doesn't look like the regular swords that are sealed.

Kenpachi and Ichigo are the only exceptions. They also happen to be the only ones whose swords are in constant released form: shikai.

Benihime.

It could be that kenny previous sword was released but to the same effect of yumichika and renji not calling out the correct name if the zanpaktou

Yep.

That works as an explanation to clear up the plothole.

However, the author has yet to write that so it still remains a plothole. 🙁

Nope, still the same blade as all the others. Kisake may have modified his hilt after coming to the real world.
