Got a question for you Namor fans.
I've never known anything about Namor, all I have ever seen of him is a references here and there and him walking around looking cool in House of M. However today i started reading the Road to Civil War issues (the one shot one about Namor, Black Bolt, Iron Man, Xavier and Dr. Strange) and Namor was actually quite interesting.
So, do u have any good comics to recommend for someone who wanna have a go at trying to read about Namor? I don't feel much like starting on Issue 1, something newer (like 50 years newer then the first ones).
Hmm, so 1989 and forward?
Well, Illuminati Series is pretty excellent thus far.
New Avengers: Illuminati Special is cool too.
Marvel Team-Up v2 6, 8, 9, 10, 11 are nice.
Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner v2 #1-62 of course...#26-40 are the cream of the crop, with Byrne/Harras writing and Jae Lee, who draws one of the best Namor ever.
If you like Inhumans, the v2 series has some good Namor in it...not much, but all appearences he makes are cool. Jae Lee on arts again...something superb.
Marvel Knights Fantastic Four #8, #9 & #30 is pretty good.
Captain America v4 10 & 16 has Namor on it...Chuck Austen writes a good one, even though his other comics are...questionable. The series has some BADASS Namor stuff, so here is few scans of it...Jae Lee on art...did I mention that his Namor is AWESOME?

So, the first issue of the new Namor series comes in June. Looks pretty nice, actually:
SUB-MARINER #1 (of 6)
Written by MATT CHERNISS & PETER JOHNSON
Penciled by PHIL BRIONES
Cover by MICHAEL TURNER
REVOLUTION (PART 1 OF 6)
The King has returned! Fresh off his key appearances in CIVIL WAR and WOLVERINE, Marvel’s first mutant returns in his own limited series that will forever change the way we look at Namor and Atlantis. A horrendous terrorist attack has struck the U.S., and all clues point to an Atlantean sleeper cell. Now, Namor finds himself in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s crosshairs. But is Namor to blame? Or is this merely the first strike orchestrated by those within Atlantis who would see Namor stripped of his title and his kingdom? The half-human, half-Atlantean son of two worlds must race between the sea and the surface to track down those responsible for the attack before Tony Stark, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. – a.k.a. Iron Man – takes him down! Written by Matt Cherniss and Peter Johnson (POWERLESS) with art by the internationally acclaimed Phil Briones (WHITE TIGER) and a first cover by superstar-artist Michael Turner!

Certainly an interesting story...looking forward to it. 🙂
Looks good, I'm typically impressed with the way the companies [DC/Marvel] handle their Aqua-heros, but it seems that regardless of how good the story is, and how much praise it gets, how critical it is, and well concieved it is... that their numbers never reflect such. Sad, because the Aqua-heros can be some of the most interesting in either universe.
If my money's right, and it looks solid enough, I may pick it up.
Yep, Aqua-heroes are underrated. 🙁 It does seem that Namor is becoming more popular, though. I am completely happy with mini-series, the exposure Namor has been getting lately is astronomical compared to the last 15 years or so...I mean, he's practically the first Marvel character. Guy deserves more.
July is going to be a nice month for Namor. First he gets a five-page spotlight in a handbook:

They have faced the Skrull empire, the Hulk, the Sentry, the Infinity Gems and the Beyonder... but now the secret society of Marvel is faced with the one thing too much for even them... and the cover to this issue says it all. Oh, and there's this guy named Marvel Boy who declared war on the Earth.

It's a good time to be a Namor fan. 😄
he comes in after the mighty avengers have spent half the issue beating on tiger shark and his summoned sea creatures, winds up sending the sea creatures back to the depths of the ocean, and gives the MA a talking to and a warning. not a very interesting appearance, though he does show some pragmatic reasoning.
Well, here is the page from there...Namor verbally owns Mighty Avengers.

Ed McGuinness draws a pretty good Namor. And Loeb isn't bad at writing it...just one thing Jeph, it's Horn of Proteus, not Horn of Gabriel. 🙂
