Hurricane Katrina packs winds (175mph)

Started by manny32125 pages

I find that more disturbing.

Death tolls are rising. I gave up on giving numbers as there a million conflicting reports. Local stations reporting many many dead while Govt dismiss some reports All i know the number in the thousands is the new reality. Its 453 to ??? killed directly and 335 indirectly. Im quite shocked by the numbers of indirectly killed. Over 100 reported indirectly killing one county in LA.

Direct deaths indicate those caused by the direct effects of the winds, flooding, storm surge or oceanic effects of Katrina. Indirect deaths indicate those caused by hurricane-related accidents (including car accidents), fires or other incidents, as well as cleanup incidents and health issues.

Someone in Mississippi said (not quoting just putting what he mostly said) was volunteering to remove bodies and said 18 bodies were pulled in less then 2.5 hours by himself.

This is getting grim however i think tomorrow may get better unless some major criminal activity starts in LA.

The wait for help has already killed 100 just outside New Orelans.
100 said dead in Chalmette

Thursday, 9:46 p.m.

About 100 people have died at the Chalmette Slip after
being pulled off their rooftops, waiting to be ferried
up the river to the West Bank and bused out of the
flood ravaged area, U.S. Rep. Charles Melancon,
D-Napoleonville, said Thursday.

THey died after being saved from thier homes. That makes many go 😠 😠 By the way this is considered indirect deaths.

k, this thing has been grating on my nerves all day.. i have NEVER EVER been THIS mad at my government.. this is oput of hand, insane and totally unnecessary...

First off.. THESE PEOPLE NEED HELP!! NOW!! ASAP!! they are reporting that in next 3 days they will have enough troops in.. these people dont have 3 days.. they have already been out of water for 3 days.. one or two more & they are all dead from dehydration

Second - they are using the looters as an excuse to tell the police & army to STAND DOWN.. ok lets see here.. we have cops, army, tanks, bullet proof vests. etc... if the army csnt deal with a few bullets then what the f*ck are they good for? THATS THEIR JOB to deal with it and they told them to STAND DOWN?? what f*cking morons!!

Third - they are sending ships from Norfolk VA to help.. so these ships have to sail from virginia all the way down the east coast around florida and thru the gulf to get there... WE HAVE A BASE IN CUBA!!! Why cant we deploy trrops from there? Well the 'detainees' from Iraq are being held there and are now on a hunger strike because they have been help for THREE AND A HALF YEARS with no charges pressed and no access to representation.. so of course we cant use those troops.. those troops need to stay and guard folks who may or may not be terrorists.. GAHHHHH!!!

when PVS said "excellant point. one i've been making for years. the whole purpose of the national guard is to protect the homeland.
thus the name "national guard" and not "extra army because we've run out of volunteers" - ABSOFRIGGINLUTELY!!

and where is our fearless leader during all of this?? playing guitar & serving birthday cake
http://hughesforamerica.typepad.com/hughes_for_america/2005/08/august_2930_200.html

and now there is only enough gas for 2 more days here.. at $3 a gallon no less (they signed injunctions in TN & GA yesterday since gougers were selling gas at $5.00 a gallon in Atlanta - just one example) .. if nothing else will mobilize the American people to revolt against the govt.. lack of fuel will.. where i live there is NO public transportation.. everyone has to drive everywhere.. work, school, store, EVERYWHERE.. no fuel = no economy AT ALL

I just cannot believe the level of insensitivity and lack of action on teh part of our government.. I am truly embarrased at it all..

Looks like Bush is gonna have a LOOOOOT of explaining to do about playing guitar and cake. I can actually picture that in a Michael Moore ducumentary !

Someone even said:

"It looks like the most powerful nation on earth can be so eager to control foreign turf yet not so much in their own back-yard"

my focus is shifting from sympathy to apathy really f ****ing quick. i mean everyone is hot, tired, sticky, and hungry, yet ppl are still finding the energy to rape ppl! RAPE FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD!!!!!! what the **** is this world coming to?!?

That situation is soo out of hand. I would be SOOOOO ****ing ashamed to call the government in the STates, my leaders. Thank god they are not.

I dont know what they are doing, we home here are frustrated by just looking that the TV. This is the highest level of incompetance I've ever seen.

Ahh and HA USA, look at who is the first country to come and help. FRANCE. Hmm I think WE can see who is the 'bigger' country here now.

I wish that I couldn't watch anymore, but i feel bad by looking at another program. Last night was the first time a news broadcast brought me to tears. It was either MSNBC or FOX news, where one guy was reporting and in the back of him was a man who had collapsed and died while walking and was thus left behind. The reporter was fighting back tears, but I had to leave the room. Even after all the heartbreak of the tsunami, I never went to tears. Its just WAYYYYYY tooo bad there in New orleans.

Thought I'd post in-between these blame-game posts with a call out to a KMC member. This dude has responded with posts like this during the IVAN thread and the DENNIS thread. Time and time again I responded to how shitty posts like this were...and I was just wondering when we were going to get a post like this from this dude for Hurricane Katrina.

I dont know, what a pussy of a hurricane. why dont Hurricanes shoot for triple digets in the death toll? If were gonna get some destruction, i want some mayhem. Not a pussy ass class 2 hurricane.

hope we get some good death tolls this year, none of that two digit shit.

Well, you got it buddy. Hope you're happy.

😐 😐 😐

Apparently the majority of police officers have resigned in New Orleans as they see the fact that since they have no homes left, there is no point going back to save lives as they don't want to go back and get shot by criminals as they no longer need to risk their lives being in a place where they don't wanna be in. Well in all fairness, who would want to be in New Orleans at the moment anyway?

Doubt it will ever be the same...Glad I saw it once....French Quarter was kinda cool...All gone now....

again, wouldnt it be nice if we had a national guard?

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?

Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!

I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?

And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!

On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.

There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!

You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.

Yours,

Michael Moore

Could help them couldn't it?

the difficulties in new orleans are starting to be tackled...already the broken levvies are getting temporary sand bag barriers lowered in by helicopter...once this is done and power is restored to the pumping stations then the water can start to be pumped out...then the permanant barriers can be put in place

but none of this is going to happen while idiots are going around shooting at those who are trying to help...

its apparent that the people stuck in new orleans are predominantly black...i always thought that the bonds between the black community were supposed to be strong...it seems the age old black "brothers and sisters" social attitude is a bit of a sham given what they appear to be doing to one another

most disasters call for a sense of community more than at any other time...the people of indonesia and sri lanka managed it...the people of bam in iran after the earthquake managed it...but it seems the people of new orleans are to busy getting angry and blaming the government to help themselves and each other....

thats the impression i get from the news reports where all you see is people sitting around looking sorry for themselves or screaming obscenities at the camera....

way to prove yourself ignorant and racist. like how you fail to learn that the majority of the population is black, and also poor. i love your use of the word "they" to imply that most of "them" are just thugs and looters. just an ugly hateful non-truth which im surprised to hear from you. we've had our disagreements, but thats just f***ed.

again with the insults pvs...just cant help yourself can you?

i use "they" cause i can hardly use "us" given that i am neither american or from new orleans or black...

and whats ignorant and racist?...every news headline is of looters and rapings and killings....none of it is showing anyone doing anything good for their neighbours...perfect example being the guy sitting outside whats left of his house with a huge sign saying "some near this house and you die"....nice community spirit there eh?

whatever jaden. just keep running with unrelated points in an attempt to demonise a community. as long as you have a nation of people to bash, then this thread was all worth it.

so you hate black people?
not to label you, but why else would you take incidents in a chaotic situation and run with them in an attempt to make them represent the actions and attitudes of the entire population? are you that ignorant?

you're just flat out lying to yourself if you honestly believe this shit only happens in america and only with black americans. this conversations is sickening to me and im through. and too bad if you feel insulted because i really dont give a shit.
